Lexington, MA

Tell us a little about yourself. You can include your personal background, family, outside interests that are important to who you are as a person and a candidate.

My wife Robin (a Lexington librarian for almost 25 years) and I have lived in this wonderful town for over 50 years. Our four sons, all of whom benefited from excellent educations in Lexington Public Schools, are now spread across the country with their families.

After growing up in New Jersey and spending my undergraduate years at Rutgers (where I met my future wife), I moved to the Boston area to earn a graduate degree at MIT in physics. After graduation, I spent a number of years in the computer industry ending that part of my career at Fidelity Investments where I managed a large group in IT. After that I was fortunate enough to be able to return to academia in the physics department at Boston University where I did research on networks and other complex systems. Since retirement, I’ve been able to continue that research as well as get involved in Town affairs through my membership in Town Meeting and the Lexington Tree Committee.

Why are you running for Town Meeting?

I want to continue serving Precinct 4 as a Town Meeting member not only to give back to the community that has given so much to us but additionally because it allows me to interact, grow, and learn from other Town Meeting members allowing me to be a more informed and better citizen of the Town.

How has your past experience — whether in your professional life, elected office, or as a community leader — prepared you for a role in Town Meeting?

My experience in both the private sector and academia has enabled me to see issues through multiple lenses.  Serving as a member for almost 20 years of both Town Meeting and the Tree Committee (also as chair for five years), I have institutional knowledge that aids in making the most informed decisions for my constituents.
