I urgently ask all Democrats to vote in the upcoming primary on Tuesday, September 3 and enthusiastically endorse Mara Dolan for Governor’s Council.
Holding a primary on the day after Labor Day is very questionable public policy, and the Governor’s Council is an anachronistic holdover from colonial days but, all that notwithstanding, your vote is important. I’ve known Mara for decades and she’s one of the most intelligent and devoted public servants I’ve had the pleasure and honor to work with. The Boston Globe endorsed her for the same reasons I do. The Governor’s Council has the responsibility to confirm judges and to rule on pardons. Mara is a defense attorney, a public defender at that, who will make a major contribution to the intelligence, compassion, and professionalism of the Council. Her opponent has served for decades and has been part of the Council’s problems with intelligence, compassion, and professionalism, even basic decency. Her campaign postcard, which you have probably received in this weekend’s mail, continues her pattern of falsehoods and misrepresentations. Again, as the Globe said, it’s time to retire her.
You can vote early by going into the Town Clerk’s office, arranging for an absentee ballot, or joining me at the polls on September 3. But vote and help elect Mara Dolan.

I second Jay Kaufman’s strong endorsement of Mara Dolan. She is an extraordinary person and defense attorney. Her addition to the Governor’s Council will provide balance to the Council, compiled primary of prosecuting attorneys. Additionally, she has integrity and the ability to work with colleagues woefully absent in the incumbent Marilyn Devaney whom I have known for years.
I strongly support Jay Kaufman’s endorsement. I personally spoke with the incumbent about an issue and was very dissatisfied at her attitude. It’s way past time for a change. Please vote for Mara Dolan! (And if you live in Boston District 4, I am supporting Stacey Borden for Governor’s Council.)
