The following incidents were selected from the Lexington Police Department logs during the week leading up to August 20, 2024. The Lexington Observer does not independently verify this information.
Community Engagement
Thursday, August 15 at 5:05 p.m., an officer was present at a peaceful gathering of individuals at the corner of Mass. Ave at Pleasant St. There were approximately 10 individuals representing both Israel and Palestine.
Suspicious Activity
Tuesday, August 13 at 1:40 a.m., officers were near the area of Mass. Ave. near Dunkin’ Donuts checking on a group of juveniles with flashlights. The group took off on the bike path heading toward the center. When officers located the group, they claimed they were checking the dumpster behind Dunkin’ Donuts for any free donuts that might have been discarded. Officers spoke with one of the juvenile’s parents who picked up the youths. As a result of this incident, their Dean of Students will be notified at the beginning of the school year.
Friday, August 16 at 8:50 p.m., an individual reported his mother was a Wilson Rd. resident and called to say a U-Haul truck repeatedly drove down Wilson Rd. and turned around. The caller followed the truck to the Element Hotel, and it turned around and headed back to Wilson Rd. The responding officer reported he met with the caller who stated the car made multiple laps of the area and provided the vehicle’s registration. After a check of the area resulted in negative findings, the officer advised him to call back if any further suspicious activity occurred.
Sunday, August 18 at 9:45 a.m., an employee of the Lexington-Bedford Veterinary Hospital reported a black van had been parked in the fire lane for half an hour. She wanted to leave work, but the van made her uncomfortable. The responding officer reported the van was a shuttle for the Newcomer Residence at the Armory on Bedford St.
Monday, August 19 at 7:55 a.m., a Bowman St. resident reported an RV had been parked in the lot across from his home for 2 weeks. It appeared that someone was living inside. The caller stated there was also a vehicle that the RV was towing that came and went regularly. Both were parked on town property across from this residence. The responding officer attempted to contact all parties but was unsuccessful. The officer will follow up with the occupants to advise them of the bylaws regarding camping on neighborhood streets.
Disturbance
Tuesday, August 13 at 11:45 a.m., a Cedar Ridge Dr., Bedford resident called to report difficulty with an ongoing property line dispute. He wanted officers to come to his home because his neighbor was “getting aggressive.” This is a civil issue between neighbors over the use of an easement. Both parties have been advised of no-trespass orders.
Thursday, August 15 at 2:20 p.m., a caller at the Saint Brigid’s rectory reported her seven-year-old “special needs” child was out of control and biting her. Two of her other children, aged 13 and 10, were also acting out. She asked if someone could wait with her until her husband arrived to take the children. All was in order after he arrived.
Animal Control
Wednesday, August 14 at 8:15 a.m., a caller reported a deceased cat at Bow Street and Cummings Ave. DPW was notified for pick up, and ACO Leskouski was also notified. He requested that DPW bring the cat to the shed to scan it for a chip.
Wednesday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m., the ACO was called for a cat complaint on Essex St. He could not locate the owners.
Wednesday, August 14 at 11:50 a.m., the ACO transported a dog to a Lexington veterinarian because the Grapevine Ave. owner was not able.
Friday, August 16 at 10:15 p.m., a caller reported a dog had been barking for several hours on Todd Rd. The responding officer reported barking upon his arrival. After knocking on the door, the dog continued barking, but the officer couldn’t raise anyone, and there was no contact phone number. The ACO will follow up on the dog’s well-being.
Larceny
Tuesday, August 13 at 5:00 p.m., a Main Campus Dr. resident reported her two diamond rings, kept in a jewelry box inside her closet, were missing. She saw them a few weeks ago but has been unable to locate them since. The only “strangers” in her home were maintenance personnel. She was advised to call her insurance company.
Saturday, August 17 at 6:50 p.m., a Main Campus Dr. resident reported his bicycle had been moved to a different area of a different garage. He located it and noticed a different seat and front tire had replaced the original parts. Police will check with property management to obtain video footage.
Fraud
Thursday, August 15 at 2:35 p.m., a Lowell St. resident reported several weeks ago she noticed inquiries on her credit score she didn’t recognize. She had Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion freeze her account. On 8/13 she received an alert from Experian advising her that her account had been “updated.” When she contacted Experian, they explained the phone number and e-mail address had been changed. She is in the process of disputing this change with Experian, and she filed a report with the FTC. Currently, there is no monetary loss.
Monday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m., a Kendall Rd. resident reported receiving a letter notifying her that her Social Security number had been sold on the “dark web.” Credit Secure told her to file a police report or contact the Federal Trade Commission. Her credit is being monitored, and there is no monetary loss.
Monday, August 19 at 4:00 p.m., a Hastings Rd. resident reported mailing a check in the mailbox at Cary Hall on July 19. On August 12, the check deposited had been altered and rewritten to an unknown person for $20,000. Bank of America has refunded this loss.
