First Parish in Lexington, MA, focuses on ways to “Continue the Revolution” with an outdoor installation overlooking historic Lexington Battle Green.

First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Lexington embraced our value of putting Love at the center of all we do with a new installation of public benches at 3 Harrington Road overlooking the historic Battle Green. Each bench is inscribed with words that represent our core Unitarian-Universalist values: Interdependence, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Generosity, and Justice, with information about the revolutionary nature of UU beliefs.

Rev. Stephen Shick, Chair of the Continue the Revolution task force, noted: ” We celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country with both joy and concern. In 1776, indigenous people and women had no rights. Some of the men who fought that day, as well as enslaved African Americans, had no rights, and no one considered rights such as accessibility, inclusion, and protection from climate change, which we now embrace.” First Parish asks visitors to remember and engage in the work that remains unfinished.
