The following incidents were selected from the Lexington Police Department log during the week leading up to May 4. The Lexington Observer does not independently verify this information. 

Community Engagement

Tuesday, April 28 at 11 a.m. and Wednesday, April 29 at 9:40 a.m., Detective Hankins conducted a tour of the police station for the Intro Law classes from Lexington High School.

Thursday, April 30 at 8:45 a.m., Detectives Chaisson and Hankins, along with K9 Watson, conducted a ride to school for the winner of the Hastings School PTO silent auction.

Friday, May 1 at 8:30 a.m., Officers Adley and Fiore assisted with the Hastings Bike Train at Mass Ave. and Forest St.

Friday, May 1 at 8:40 a.m., several officers took part in community engagement at the Special Olympics events at Center Field. 

Friday, May 1 at 6:10 p.m., several officers assisted with a march from Depot Square to the Battle Green with the William Diamond Junior Fife and Drum Corps.

Saturday, May 2 at 8:35 a.m., Captain Barry attended the Lexington Little League Parade, where he served as a guest speaker.

Sunday, May 3 at 11:55 a.m., at the request of the US Department of State, several officers assisted at the Lexington Visitors Center, where the Turkish Consulate and staff participated in an event. 

Community Engagement – Comfort Dogs

Monday, April 27 at 4:45 p.m., Detective Hankins and K9 Watson attended the Unified Basketball game hosted at Lexington High School. 

Wednesday, April 29 at 8:15 a.m., Detective Sullivan and K9 Maisey attended Scofield Elementary School in Wellesley, MA, as part of a co-response with other CRDs for two recent student deaths.

Wednesday, April 29 at 2:10 p.m., School Resource Officers Hankins and Sullivan coordinated with a student from LHS who wanted to surprise a younger sibling at Hastings Elementary School. With the administration’s help, a visit to Hastings with both students and the department’s comfort dogs was scheduled.

Thursday, April 30 at 8:45 a.m., School Resource Officer Hankins and K9 Watson assisted Detective Chaisson with a ride to school for two elementary school students who attend Hastings.

Friday, May 1 at 9:00 a.m., School Resource Officer Hankins and K9s Maisey and Watson attended the Special Olympics held at the Center Field and Track. 

Suspicious Activity

Thursday, April 30 at 2:50 p.m., a Manning St. resident reported a couple came to his house, opened the door to an enclosed porch and looked around before leaving the area. Responding officers spoke with the homeowner, who stated the male individual was wearing a reflective vest. The officer checked the surrounding houses for cameras. 

Disturbance and Noise Complaint

Tuesday, April 28 at 8:20 a.m., a caller reported a physical and verbal altercation on Follen Rd. between a bicyclist and a driver who hit him. The responding officer spoke to the bicyclist who had instigated the incident by spitting and kicking at the motor vehicle. The motorist confronted the bicyclist, and a physical altercation occurred. Medical attention was declined. 

Monday, May 2 at 11:15 p.m., a Main Campus Drive resident reported his neighbor had been playing loud music for two hours. The responding officer spoke with the neighbor, who agreed to keep the music down.

Town Bylaws

Town Bylaw 455 Reminder  

The use of gas-powered leaf blowers is prohibited for all residents effective March 15, 2026. This follows a ban on commercial landscapers, which took effect on March 15, 2025. The restrictions, part of an amendment to the Town Noise Bylaw, aim to eliminate noise pollution and toxic emissions from these machines.

Respect your neighbors’ rights regarding noise pollution. Homeowners, please advise your employees about Lexington’s bylaws. 

This past week, there were 10 complaints 

Town Bylaw 451 regarding construction work hours: 4/27 on Manning St., 4/28 on School St., and 4/29 on Percy Rd. 

Animal Control and Complaints

Wednesday, April 29 at 7:50 a.m., a coyote was seen wandering near Pleasant St. and Concord Ave. It appeared to have been injured by a car. 

On Wednesday, April 29 at 11 a.m., a complaint was received regarding a dog on Spring Street. The Animal Control Officer completed a wellness check and reported no issues regarding the dog. 

Friday May 1 at 12:55 p.m., a caller reported a gray Jeep SUV with a dog locked inside for more than an hour. The responding officer checked the vehicle. The windows were cracked open, and the dog did not appear to be in distress.

Friday, May 1 at 11:05 p.m., a report came in regarding a sick or injured possum in a yard on Ewell Ave. The responding officer reported the animal was put down, and DPW was notified for removal. 

Saturday, May 2 at 2:45 p.m., the ACO contacted the station regarding a Malden resident who might try to surrender a dog that is not from Lexington. If she attempted to drop off the dog, the ACO was to be notified. An animal care supervisor from the Lowell Humane Society was also aware of the situation.

Larceny 

Tuesday, April 28 at 12:40 p.m., a Lexington Ridge Dr. resident reported a camera he ordered on eBay was marked as delivered through UPS, but he did not receive it. The order stated, “Met customer.” However, no package was found.

Saturday, May 2 at 2:15 p.m., a Bedford St. resident reported she had left laundry on her porch for a cleaning service. When she contacted the laundry service, they had not picked it up. It had been stolen.

Fraud

Wednesday, April 29 at 12:40 p.m., a Captain Parker Arms resident reported she had been the victim of credit card fraud. An unknown Individual had made a purchase on Expedia in the UK. for $1686.93 GBP. 

Wednesday, April 29 at 5:50 p.m., a Shade St. resident reported someone had tried to open a fraudulent QuickBooks account that was linked to his bank account. This had occurred on April 22. There was no monetary loss. The responding officer advised him to notify his bank.

Thursday, April 30 at 11:45 a.m., a Slocum Rd. resident reported she had attempted to purchase a $5 chat service online when she noticed her card was actually charged $65. She cancelled her credit cards, so there was no monetary loss. She plans to monitor her bank accounts for suspicious activity. She was advised to ignore suspicious emails or texts and to block any scam phone numbers.
