The following incidents were selected from the Lexington Police Department log during the week leading up to August 25. The Lexington Observer does not independently verify this information.
Simple Assault
Thursday, August 21, at 7 p.m., an Emerson Gardens Road resident reported a teen girl on a scooter had harassed her. The teen left the scooter, and when she returned to retrieve it, she threatened the elderly woman, who then kept the scooter from her. The mother of the teen called the police to report her daughter had been kicked by a woman who stole her scooter. After the officer spoke with both parties involved, the woman was charged with assault and larceny of a scooter. The officer explained the process of obtaining a Harassment Protection Order to both parties.
Community Engagement
Monday, August 18, through Friday, August 22, Detective Chaisson, Sergeant Delano, and Officer O’Brien taught a week-long Radkids self-defense camp at Bridge School. On Friday, the Chief spoke with the students who had successfully completed the simulation scenarios.
Suspicious Activity
Tuesday, August 19, at 12:40 a.m., an individual reported her mother’s house was being broken into. She could see a man with his dog in her camera. The responding officer spoke with the man, who realized he was at the wrong address and left. All was in order.
Noise Complaints and Disturbance
Thursday, August 21, at 10:20 p.m., an individual reported a “large group of juveniles screaming and making a lot of noise” at the Christian Academy. Responding units located four youths who live on Bartlett and the surrounding area. They were advised to quiet down and move along.
Saturday, August 23, at 7:40 p.m., a Vine Brook Road resident reported an older woman walked from the parking lot of Clay Oven into their yard while they were having a gathering. This individual grabbed a tiki torch and left with it. Responding officers located the Arizona woman near the bike shop and retrieved the torch.
Town Bylaw 451
Saturday, August 23, at 7:40 p.m., a Deering Avenue resident reported contractors working nearby. The responding officer spoke to the employees from Martinez Father and Son Construction Company and advised them of the bylaw.
Sunday, August 24, at 6:30 p.m., a caller reported kids riding electric scooters on the track at center field. The responding officer spoke to the individuals in question, and they were advised of the bylaw. They removed the scooters from the track.
Animal Control and Complaints
Monday, August 18, at 8:55 a.m., a complaint came in from Middleby Road regarding a man walking a small, white, unleashed dog. The dog had charged a 4-year-old, so the owner was asked to leash the dog. Instead, he walked away. Responding officers spoke with the reporting party and checked the area, but they were unable to locate the man.
Tuesday, August 19, at 7:40 p.m., a Mass Ave. resident reported a black dog running around the street by itself “with no owner in sight.” He retrieved the dog and called from the side of the road. The responding officer reported the owner was reunited with the dog. The resident had been out looking for the dog when it was with the officer and the reporting party.
Wednesday, August 20, at 4:25 p.m., a resident near Waltham Street and Allen Street flagged down an officer and explained a hawk had been struck by a car, and he was looking for assistance. The responding officer reported they were able to find an individual in Wayland who would accept wildlife to rehabilitate it. The resident agreed to take the hawk to the drop-off point in Wayland.
Burglary and Larceny
Tuesday, August 19, at 9:55 a.m., an individual called to report a past break-in. The responding officer reported the break-in had occurred sometime between August 15 at 3 p.m. and August 18 at 7 a.m. Approximately $6,000 worth of tools was taken. The officer canvassed the area for a video, but with negative results.
Saturday, August 22, at 7:20 p.m., a resident at Battle Green Apartments on Worthen Road reported FedEx had delivered a package at approximately 11:35 a.m. When he arrived home, there was no package. He checked with the neighbors, and no one had any knowledge of the situation. The package contained a pair of $300 sneakers.
Fraud
Monday, August 18, at 3:05 p.m., an East Emerson Road resident reported an individual opened a checking account at Santander Bank using his name and Social Security number on August 11. When he became aware of it, he closed the fraudulent account, and there was no monetary loss.
Tuesday, August 19, at 3:40 p.m., a Maple Street resident reported a check washing incident. Two checks had been altered and cashed. One was rewritten for $34,695 and the second for $8,261.40. Both checks had been mailed outside of a Newton post office.
Thursday, August 21, at 4:50 p.m., a Mason Street resident reported finding two fraudulent charges on her credit card account totaling $1,400. She promptly cancelled the account.
