Tell us a little about yourself. You can include your personal background, family, outside interests that are important to who you are as a person and a candidate.
Lexington resident since 1967. Involved in Lexington government affairs since 1972. Strong supporter of conservation and recreation projects in town.
Why are you running for Town Meeting?
As a long-time Town Meeting representative, I believe I have a sense of the priorities of the town, and especially those of my precinct, and I wish to continue supporting those priorities as a representative to Town Meeting.
My experience on various town boards has given me a greater understanding of the needs and desires of the residents of Lexington.
How has your past experience — whether in your professional life, elected office, or as a community leader — prepared you for a role in Town Meeting?
I have served in the following town roles (in chronological order):
1. Town Meeting Representative continuously since 1972
2. Former Chair of the Capital Expenditures Committee
3. Former Member of the Appropriation Committee
4. Former Member and Chair of Minuteman Technical High School School Committee
5. Former Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals
6. Current Member of the Zoning Board of Appeals
What is the most important issue in this election to you personally, and what ideas do you have about how to address this issue?
For me, the most critical issue is to proceed as rapidly as possible in completing the construction of a new high school. Approval of funds for construction will be on the fall Town Meeting, followed by a debt exclusion vote, and I will do my best to ensure the project is started as soon as possible.
I have always responded to requests from constituents with differing views, either by replying to their e-mails or speaking to them in person if they contact me. I am happy to explain my rationale for my position on specific issues, and have had many meaningful discussions with constituents on such matters.
