Lexington’s Greek Orthodox community celebrated Easter this past weekend with a candlelit vigil at the stroke of midnight, as Saturday, May 4 became Sunday, May 5. The Eastern Orthodox Church follows a slightly different calendar for calculating the date of Easter than the one used by Roman Catholics and Protestants. Easter is considered the most important holiday of the year. In addition to the midnight candle lighting, Greek Easter traditions include eggs dyed a bright red and a feast often featuring roasted lamb.
