To “consider climate change in all …decisions and planning processes” is perhaps more relevant now than it was more than a decade ago when the warrant article was drafted.  And that is why I am going to vote for Cindy Arens for Select Board, because she has the resolve to be the custodian of that vision. She has the skills and compassion to lead Lexington into a healthier, thriving and more connected future.

Cindy cares. I first met Cindy when she was volunteering with the AARP Tax-Aide program helping senior citizens file their income taxes. Cindy continues to spend long hours volunteering, cutting through the red tape to assure LexHAB residents receive the utility rebates they are entitled to. Cindy gets things done. She spent 20 years in the software industry, ultimately leading a group of over 35 employees creating voice and video mobile services that you use today. She leads by example. When the Lexington Public Schools needed a  plan for composting food waste during lunch hours, Cindy organized her peers, and made what could have been a drudge job into something meaningful. Now there is a cadre of parents and staff who join Cindy daily, bridging the generation gap, raising awareness and giving students agency over their daily positive environmental impacts.

Cindy has turned her managerial and leadership skills into helping Lexington become a leader in sustainability initiatives. She’s been instrumental in Lexington’s recognition as one of the ten communities in the Commonwealth allowed to regulate the use of fossil fuel in new construction. She’ll insist that the new high school be constructed using the most cost effective, resilient and healthy energy systems. She cares about the future; she cares about the bottom line; she cares about us.
