A Joyful Noyse poster

Arguably the most prolific composer in history, with over 3,000 catalogued compositions, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) had a profound influence on the musical life and style of the 18th century. On Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m., early music ensemble A Joyful Noyse presents Songs of Sacred Contemplation at Hancock Church.

This concert presents some of Telemann’s earliest works, as well as, his later solo cantatas and selections from two of his Passion Oratorios. Telemann’s music demonstrates how he was able to incorporate the rich and expressive palette of secular music, theatrical style and poetic devices into the realm of sacred music, giving its listeners a deeper and more meaningful spiritual experience.

A Joyful Noyse is an early music group that specializes in liturgical music of the 16th-18th centuries. Hancock Church is an open and affirming, immigrant welcoming church in the heart of Lexington, MA right on the Battle Green at 1912 Massachusetts Ave. The building is equipped with chair lifts and an elevator.
