Carry It Forward is a student-led nonprofit founded by Lexington High School students that gives reusable grocery bags a second life while supporting local families with over 5,000 bags donated so far! We started our organization out of a collective distaste for throwing away perfectly useful paper bags we did not intend to use again. However, through experiences at the Lexington Food Pantry, we found a purpose for these bags.
Every week, the Lexington Food Pantry distributes hundreds of reusable grocery bags to help families carry groceries home. Carry It Forward collects clean reusable bags from the community, sorts and prepares them, and donates them directly to the Lexington Food Pantry. We hope to unite community efforts to collect around 900 bags a week.
