Our community is strengthened when young people recognize challenges around them and take action to create meaningful change. This year, two Lexington Girl Scouts, Audrey Boulter and Victoire Schaeffer, demonstrated that kind of leadership by earning the “Girl Scout Gold Award”, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.
The Gold Award honors Girl Scouts who identify a community need, develop a sustainable solution, and lead a service project designed to make a lasting impact. Audrey and Victoire’s projects show how thoughtful ideas and compassion can help build a more inclusive Lexington.
Audrey Boulter’s project, “Diversity Shelf,” addressed the importance of helping children understand and appreciate different cultures, identities, and experiences from an early age. She designed and built a rolling bookshelf at a local elementary school featuring more than 80 books that highlight diverse perspectives. She also created interactive activities to encourage students to explore themes of inclusion and representation. The project will continue through the school librarian’s ongoing management of the collection.
Victoire Schaeffer’s project, “Practical Steps to Promote Inclusion of Neurodivergent Youth,” focused on increasing awareness and acceptance of neurodivergent students. She created an educational e-book with stories, activities, and resources about autism and inclusion, led presentations for children, and developed materials that schools and programs can continue using to support more welcoming environments.
Both projects reflect the power of youth leadership. Audrey and Victoire did more than complete service hours—they listened to their community, identified opportunities for improvement, and created tools that can continue benefiting others.
Their work is a reminder that positive change often begins with individuals who are willing to notice a need and act. Lexington is fortunate to have young residents who are helping shape a more understanding and inclusive community.
Congratulations to Audrey and Victoire on this remarkable achievement and on the lasting contributions they have made.
