I want to sincerely thank Jim Kelly, Building Commissioner for Lexington, for the outstanding experience I had working through the permitting process — an experience that, for me, was closely tied to becoming a resident of Lexington.

I have been running my architecture and construction business for over 20 years, working extensively with building and planning officials in many towns. During that time, I have met many capable, dedicated professionals, but I have never before felt that someone was looking out for me and guiding me in the right direction to the degree that Mr. Kelly did. As someone who prides himself on knowing the codes and bylaws of the towns I work in, I greatly appreciated his willingness to shepherd me through the process — and I am grateful that it led to the outcome I was hoping for.

It is clear that Mr. Kelly is dedicated to serving his constituents and helping them succeed. In a field that governs matters of health and safety — sometimes literally life and limb — he approaches the work with a professionalism, calm demeanor, and genuine willingness to help that I deeply admire. I understand that this work comes with its own unique stresses and challenges, and yet he does it with care, going above and beyond what is required.

Mr. Kelly’s generosity in sharing knowledge, sound judgment, and broad perspective — always within the framework of the rules — made a meaningful difference for me. I consider my experience a reflection of the values and spirit of the Town of Lexington. I am proud to call it my home and inspired to pay it forward as an active member of this community.
