Unsure about immigration rights & safety? The Immigration Working Group of the Lexington Human Rights Committee has free materials in many languages to share with businesses, organizations, and individuals, including:
Know Your Rights wallet cards. One side includes a quick reference to immigrants’ Constitutional rights. The flip side (in English) can be shown to an enforcement officer to assert that the cardholder knows & is exercising their rights, including the right to remain silent.
Know Your Rights fact sheets (from miracoalition.org/) include wallet card information, plus additional details.
For materials, email lexiwg26@gmail.com or download from the IWG website, along with guidelines for emergency preparedness for families.
Everyone in the US has rights, no matter their immigration status. Many people lose important protections simply because they do not know what their rights are.
The IWG assesses immigration-related developments and identifies ways to support Lexington’s immigrant community. Their goal is to enhance community safety through education about individual rights, emergency preparedness, and referral to available legal support.
