The Paradox of Seabrook Farms tells the story of a sprawling vegetable farm and frozen-food processing plant in southern New Jersey and the vibrant multicultural community it both harbored and exploited. Fifteen people who grew up there as children of Post–World War II refugees from Baltic nations, previously interned Japanese Americans, or African Americans fleeing the Jim Crow south, amplify contemporary footage and facts as they recount positive childhood memories and their parents’ will to persevere in the face of trauma, discrimination and injustice.

Dutch-Estonian filmmaker Helga Merits will lead a discussion of the film, accompanied by local residents who grew up on Seabrook Farms. See a trailer at https://elektriteater.ee/en/films/seabrook-farmi-paradoks/#video. Presented by Follen’s Racial and Economic Justice Group.
