Continuing the Lexington 250th anniversary celebrations, hundreds of residents participated in the fourth annual Lexington AAPI 5K Run ‘n’ Walk on Sunday.

Launched in 2022, the AAPI 5K is an annual race on a USATF-certified 5K course that celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander culture and promotes a sense of belonging in historic Lexington.

In an effort to make the race eco-friendly and “green,” organizers Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL) and Hey Runners Club partnered with sponsor Schneider Electric to advance sustainability, reduce their environmental footprint, and promote the health and well-being of the Lexington community, per their mission statement. This year’s race was also particularly special because of the record turnout of 530 registrations, 475 (90%) of which crossed the finish line.

The first place winner was William Atwood, a 21-year-old runner with a finish time of 17:14. An honorable mention went to Gengzhen Gu, an 85-year-old participant with a finish time of 55:21.
