As a Lexington resident navigating my own perimenopause journey and working with perimenopausal women in the capacity of a health coach, I’ve come to recognize how underserved midlife women are during this major life transition. This inspired me to create the Lexington Women’s Health Speaker Series, a community initiative dedicated to empowering women with knowledge, connection, and expert resources for midlife health. My goal is to foster a supportive community right here in Lexington, where women can share their experiences, access evidence-based insights, and thrive together through this often-overlooked phase of life.
On January 8, the series launched with “Menopause Therapies Unlocked,” an in-person event that drew more than 130 women eager to learn and share their experiences. This sold-out gathering at the Lexington Venue highlighted the critical need for open conversations and actionable solutions for perimenopause and menopause, underscoring the transformative power of community.
Building on this momentum, the second event—a screening of The (M) Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause on March 20th—gathered nearly 80 women for a night of connection and learning. The documentary shed light on essential issues, including symptoms, disparities in care, myths about hormones, and the economic impacts of untreated menopause. A thoughtful and compassionate Q&A, led by Lexington-based doctors Dr. Amy Boutwell and Dr. Anila Jha, provided practical guidance and sparked meaningful dialogue on advancing care and equity for women.
I am excited to announce the next event in the Lexington Women’s Health Speaker Series: Midlife Strategies for Disease Prevention, happening next Wednesday, May 14. This evening will feature a panel of healthcare professionals—including a physician, nurse practitioner, nurse coach, and sports dietitian—sharing actionable strategies for proactive wellness. Topics will include:
- Cancer Prevention through lifestyle medicine.
- Metabolic Health via blood sugar balance.
- Heart Health with a focus on nutrition, movement, and resilience.
- Hormone Health for longevity and vitality.
Attendees will leave with practical tools to lower their risk of top midlife health concerns, guided by from expert advice tailored to their journey and support by a like-minded community.
Join us for these inspiring events and share with your girlfriends and neighbors. Together, we can empower every woman in our community to take charge of her health and thrive through midlife and beyond!

Women are not only underserved; the research establishment pays a lot more attention to the problems of men than to those of women, despite the fact that there is a lot more that can go wrong in a woman’s body. But this problem redounds to the men who have female partners, sisters, female children, etc.
This was well illustrated in Deborah Copaken’s 2021 book, Ladyparts, and she also has a substack.
