Here’s the updated daily weather forecast for Lexington, MA, from Wednesday, February 5 to Friday, February 7 by Meteorologist Matthew Moll of New England Weather Consulting:

Lexington residents should prepare for a period of cold but relatively calm weather on Wednesday before a more impactful winter storm arrives Thursday. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected, making for hazardous travel conditions. High pressure returns by Friday, bringing drier weather and continued cold temperatures.

Wednesday, February 5:

High pressure builds in from the Great Lakes, bringing mostly sunny skies but cold temperatures. Highs will only reach between 25°F and 30°F, though with much less wind than the previous day. The night will remain dry as high pressure shifts eastward, but increasing mid- to-high-level clouds will move in from the west late at night ahead of an approaching system. Overnight lows will dip well into the teens, with some single-digit temperatures possible in typically colder low-lying areas.

Thursday, February 6:

A fast-moving storm system will bring wintry precipitation beginning between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Snow will be the dominant precipitation type initially, and a brief period of moderate- to-heavy snowfall is possible. However, as warm air moves in aloft, snow will transition to sleet and possibly light freezing rain.

Accumulations of 1 to 4 inches of snow and sleet are expected, with a light glaze of ice possible. Areas northwest of I-95, including Lexington, will likely stay below freezing for most of the day, increasing the potential for slick roads. Along and southeast of the Boston-Providence corridor, temperatures may briefly rise above freezing, leading to a changeover to rain before precipitation ends.

Motorists should plan for slow and slippery travel throughout the day. High temperatures will be around 36°F, with lows dropping to 31°F overnight as the system exits.

Friday, February 7:

Drier weather returns, with mostly sunny skies. Despite the sunshine, temperatures will remain cold, with a high near 36°F. Winds will be light, making for a calmer, but chilly end to the week. Overnight, clear skies will allow temperatures to fall to around 18°F.
