It is impossible to imagine anyone better suited for the Lexington Select Board than Joe Pato. He brings enormous intelligence to the office. But, more than that, he brings the judgment and temperament that distinguish a wise leader.

We are a demanding community. There are lots of opinions, lots of engaged citizens and lots of competing expectations. So, the first quality I look for is someone who can listen carefully and respectfully. Over the years, Joe has demonstrated great listening skills and the ability to grow in his understanding of issues and perspectives, learning even as he listens.

I’m also struck by the breadth of Joe’s expertise. He clearly understands the range of issues that come before the board and adds a palpable sense of curiosity that speaks to his open-mindedness. What a gift to our community’s governance – a refreshing mix of intellect, curiosity and agility.

And no one can doubt Joe’s caring nature, sense of justice and compassion.

We have been lucky that Joe has devoted his considerable talents and energy to the Select Board. His partners on the board, the town staff, and we, the voters and citizens of Lexington, are in his debt. I will happily cast my vote for him again.
