The following incidents were selected from the Lexington Police Department log during the week leading up to January 5. The Lexington Observer does not independently verify this information. 

Directed Park, Lock, and Walk—Schools 

This past week, officers visited 2 elementary schools. During these visits, officers checked in, interacted with staff and students, and familiarized themselves with the schools’ layouts.                     

Suspicious Activity

Monday, December 30 at 10:25 p.m., a caller from the area of Captain Parker Arms reported loud teenagers outside the complex who were ringing doorbells and yelling. Responding officers were unable to locate anyone matching this description in the area.

Wednesday, January 1 at 10:35 p.m., an Eldred St. resident reported seeing an individual in black going between his neighbor’s yard and his own. He was not expecting anybody and believed his neighbors were in bed. The responding officer checked the surrounding area and there was no individual matching the description. This resident stated it could have been his neighbors, but it was too dark to be sure. He said he would speak with them and report any further information.

Saturday, January 4 at 12:05 p.m., the owner of Nouve Bakery on Mass Ave reported a suspicious customer who came into the bakery. According to the owner, he was uncomfortable when completing a transaction with him. The owner asked if the individual needed any help, but he abruptly left the store. While reviewing Ring camera footage, he noticed the individual taking pictures of the storefront. He wanted to report the incident as he found the individual’s actions and demeanor odd. He requested cruiser checks to make sure all was in order.

Sunday, January 5 at 2:05 p.m., a Buckman Tavern employee reported a man dressed in black wearing a face covering came into the Tavern and began displaying “concerning” behaviors. The responding officer spoke with the employee, and she explained the individual had asked staff to teach him about history and asked questions regarding Patriots Day. Then, he quoted the 2nd Amendment and said everyone should have the right to protect themselves. During their interaction, he stared at her for extended periods without saying anything. He eventually left. No threats were made, but the staff found the behavior concerning and wanted documentation of the interaction. Responding officers checked the area and did not locate anyone matching the description. 

Disturbance, Noise Complaints, and Town Bylaw Infractions

Monday, December 30 at 4:15 p.m., a caller reported a man on the bike path yelling at everyone walking by. He had a bike helmet and a silver bike. A walk-in at the station reported this same individual “yelling back and forth with a group of teenagers.” The responding officer located and transported the individual back to his residence in Bedford.

Monday, December 30 at 7:25 p.m., as an officer was leaving a call from Main Campus Dr., she was approached by an individual and his girlfriend. They wanted to report a break-in at their apartment, but they would not let officers into the apartment. Items missing to be documented.

Tuesday, December 31 at 5:05 p.m., a resident in the Winn Ave/Bow St. area reported there had been a jackhammer in use most of the day. The responding officer did not locate any construction equipment in the area.

Saturday, January 4 at 8:11 a.m., a Heritage Dr. resident called to complain contractors were working at a neighboring house. Responding officers spoke with the contractors from New Star Pro Remodeling and advised them of the town bylaws.

Animal Control and Complaints

Tuesday, December 31 at 4:00 p.m., a caller reported a loose dog with identifying tags on Morris St. This individual reunited the dog with its owner before the responding officer arrived.

Wednesday, January 1 at 1:30 p.m., a Cambridge resident reported being bitten by a dog at Mass Ave. and Meriam St. He spoke briefly with the owner but did not record any information. He had a small mark on his right forearm but did not seek medical attention.

Sunday, January 5 at 12:30 p.m., an individual from the Edinburgh Center reported a patient’s dog had been left unattended at Greeley Village for 3 days. The dog’s owner was a patient LFD had transported to the hospital on 1/4. He was concerned for the dog’s care. 

Larceny

Friday, January 3 at 8:15 p.m., a Marrett Rd. resident reported his 2024 black Peace Sports moped, valued at $1,200, had been stolen from Lexington High School.

Fraud

Tuesday, December 31 at 10:00 a.m., an Emerson Rd. resident reported her former healthcare worker had stolen 5 checks from her Bank of America account. The aide wrote five checks to herself totaling $10,180 between October and December 2024.

Tuesday, December 31 at 1:50 p.m., a Page Rd. resident received an e-mail from Scentbird regarding a $9 monthly subscription. The credit card used for the purchase did not belong to this resident, and there is no monetary loss. The information used for the receipt contained his name and e-mail. This resident was advised to contact credit bureaus and to monitor his bank statements.

Wednesday, January 1 at 4:15 p.m., a Bertwell Rd. resident reported someone claiming to work for American Express contacted her. They inquired about a purchase of marijuana made in China. She was instructed to contact the Chinese Police or potentially be arrested. This individual called via Skype. Then, this resident was transferred to another claiming to work for the Chinese police. This resident provided her name, date of birth, address, and passport picture. This resident contacted American Express and was reassured this was a scam. Communication ceased, and there was no monetary loss. 

Thursday, January 2 at 3:40 p.m., a Hibbert St. resident reported an attempt to open an account in his name using a former Framingham address. The account was at Robin Hood Trading in Lake Mary, Florida. This resident has filed a claim with the company and FTC. There is no monetary loss at this time. 

Thursday, January 2 at 4:35 p.m., a Forest St resident reported an unknown person cashed a check for $6,980.60 on December 13. The check number was 106, and she is unsure how it was obtained. She stated she does not mail checks, instead, she uses online banking. She has closed this account at Eastern Bank which has started a fraud investigation. 

Saturday, January 4 at 5:20 p.m., the owner of Golden Paws Pet Grooming reported an employee cashed 2 checks that had been allegedly cashed before. On January 1, he noticed two debits to his business checking account he did not recognize. He realized the checks, issued to a former employee, had been cashed for a second time. He reported the transactions to Bank of America and was fully reimbursed. This account has been frozen while Bank of America conducts its investigation.

Sunday, January 5 at 12:10 p.m., a Hamilton Rd. resident reported a suspicious e-mail he had received that appeared to be from Boston PD regarding an unpaid parking ticket issued on December 26 for his son’s vehicle. He explained his son had been in Amherst then, and the vehicle was not parked in Boston. He paid the ticket immediately, fearing it would affect the registration. He then received an e-mail stating he still owed money for an unpaid parking ticket. The e-mail appeared fraudulent as the website provided differed from the official letter he received from Boston PD. He was advised not to respond to the e-mail and to monitor his credit and bank St. He was advised to contact Boston PD to explain the situation and inquire about appealing the citation. There is no monetary loss.
