Lexington and Concord made the New York Times’ annual list of “52 Places to Go in 2025” because of the towns’ upcoming events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord this year.

On NYT’s list, Lexington shares space with exotic destinations such as the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, the Dolomite Mountains in Italy, the Lofoten Islands in Norway, and more.

The Times references many of the celebrations Lexington and Concord have planned in reasoning why the towns are must-see destinations for tourists in 2025. Among other events, NYT touts Lexington’s Patriot’s Day parade on April 19, the Concord Conservatory’s Music & Rebels concert on Feb. 7, and Lexington’s reenactment of Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride on April 18.

The article also mentions how there are “new openings” in Lexington in time for the semiquincentennial celebration. In May, LexSeeHer, a Lexington-based nonprofit that works to make women visible, unveiled “Something Is Being Done,” Lexington’s first monument that honors female trailblazers in town through history. And in April, Lexington Depot, which was once a train station and will soon be a museum of Lexington history, will open in time for the anniversary.

NYT also notes that in Concord, there will be walking tours, discussions, and other activities that explore the roles of Indigenous people and those of Black descent during the American Revolution this year.

In addition to the events NYT notes in its article, there are several celebrations of the Battle of Lexington in the coming months, including a tour of the Lexington Historical Society’s current exhibit, “Lexington Celebrates! Parades, Pageants, & Pandemonium,” on Jan. 15. Keep an eye on LexObserver’s Community Events page to stay up to date on Lex250 celebrations this year.
