Here’s the updated daily weather forecast for Lexington, MA, from Friday, December 27 to Friday, January 3 by Meteorologist Matthew Moll of New England Weather Consulting:

Lexington residents can expect varied weather conditions heading into the New Year, with a mix of sunny days, rain, and cooler air mid-week. The period will include opportunities for outdoor activities during calm, sunny stretches, while rain and mixed precipitation may pose minor travel challenges.

Friday, December 27:
Sunny and seasonably cool, with a high near 38°F. Winds will remain calm, providing comfortable conditions for outdoor errands or a walk. Skies will turn mostly cloudy in the evening, with a low around 23°F. Winds will stay light overnight, ensuring a quiet and crisp evening.

Saturday, December 28:
Partly sunny during the day, with a high near 39°F. Light winds and the lack of precipitation make this a good day for outdoor activities. Clouds will increase through the evening, with rain chances developing after 2 a.m. Temperatures will dip to around 30°F overnight, and light winds will persist. The chance of rain is 30%, so prepare for a damp start to Sunday.

Sunday, December 29:
Mostly cloudy throughout the day, with increasing chances of rain in the afternoon. The high will reach near 42°F, with light east winds at 3 to 6 mph adding to the damp feel. Rain becomes more likely by evening, with a 50% chance continuing into the night. Temperatures will remain mild, falling only to around 36°F. Southeast winds will pick up slightly in the evening, so plan for a wet and breezy end to the day.

Monday, December 30:
Rain is likely for much of the day, making this the wettest period of the forecast. Skies will remain cloudy, with a high near 47°F. East winds will blow at 7 to 9 mph, occasionally gusting up to 20 mph. Evening temperatures will drop to around 37°F, with rain continuing overnight and gradually tapering off. Winds will shift from southeast to southwest after midnight, but wet conditions will persist with a 70% chance of precipitation.

Tuesday, December 31:
Rain chances decrease in the morning, with skies becoming partly sunny by the afternoon. The high will reach near 47°F, making for mild conditions as the year comes to a close. West winds around 7 mph will shift to the north later in the day, bringing slightly cooler air. Evening temperatures will drop to around 29°F under partly cloudy skies, so bundle up if heading out for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The chance of morning precipitation is 40%, but improving conditions make for manageable travel later in the day.

Wednesday, January 1 (New Year’s Day):
Cloudy and milder, with a high near 46°F, making it one of the warmer days of the week. A chance of light rain showers will persist through the day, with a 30% chance of precipitation primarily in the morning and early afternoon. While winds will remain calm, damp conditions could make sidewalks and roads slick, especially if overnight frost hasn’t fully melted in shaded areas.

Temperatures will fall sharply into the evening, dropping to around 28°F under mostly cloudy skies. Any lingering moisture on roads and surfaces may refreeze, potentially leading to icy spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses. If you’re traveling or celebrating outdoors, exercise caution during the evening hours as untreated surfaces could become hazardous.

New Year’s festivities during the day should be manageable with proper planning, but those out late should dress warmly and prepare for cooler, icy conditions as temperatures drop.

Thursday, January 2:
Partly sunny and chilly, with a high near 44°F. Northwest winds at 5 to 8 mph will add a brisk feel to the air, making it feel colder than the actual temperature. The evening will bring clearing skies and lows around 22°F, creating frosty conditions for the overnight period. A calm but cold day, suitable for indoor plans or brief outdoor activities.

Friday, January 3:
Mostly sunny, with a high near 35°F. Light winds and abundant sunshine will make this a pleasant winter day despite the cooler temperatures. Evening lows will dip to around 24°F under partly cloudy skies. Winds will remain calm, providing a serene end to the week.
