Neil Fisher has been selected by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development to join a team of 39 international experts to help revise the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Scope 2, the world’s most established and widely used accounting standards for how companies, cities, and countries measure, manage, and report GHG emissions. Launched in 1998, the mission of the GHG Protocol is to develop internationally accepted GHG accounting and reporting standards and to promote their adoption to achieve a net zero emissions economy worldwide. The Protocol has become the rulebook for carbon and clean energy disclosures and leadership programs. Nearly 19,000 companies, worth over half the global market capital, report emissions using Protocol standards, including over 92% of Fortune 500 companies.
The team of experts was selected from over 1,300 candidates and has been tasked to help publish final standards and guidance before the end of 2026. Neil is one of 14 experts residing in the U.S. and looks forward to working with others to help modernize the Protocol to better measure, report, and recognize actions that have meaningful climate impact.
