Rory Kilgore, a Lexington Girl Scout, has partnered with Cary Memorial Public Library for their Gold Award to spread awareness about the library’s early reading program called On the Road to Reading. As part of this project, Rory created an educational video about the program that can be viewed here: https://bit.ly/3K3zeU3

In this free program parents and caregivers are encouraged to read a thousand books to their child before they start kindergarten. Books read again and again count each time, so you don’t have to worry about finding a thousand unique books. The library helps track books and rewards kids, with prizes for every one hundred books. When you sign up for the program you are also given a canvas tote bag to carry books!

Families can sign up online (www.carylibrary.org/road-reading) or in person at the children’s section of Cary Memorial Library. If you sign up online, make sure to come into the library at some point to receive your tote bag and start your car on the road.
