I am 12 years old and in 6th grade at Jonas Clarke Middle school. But my name is not important, the main focus is the problem that Lexington is facing, and the people that want to help solve it. I am part of the green team at Clarke, and we believe pollution is killing our Lexington community. We believe that single-use plastic water bottles should not be sold in Lexington shops. An estimated 60 million plastic water bottles are used each day in the USA. And plastic water bottles also take up to 450 years to decompose. In addition, 80% of the plastic water bottles that are bought end up in landfills. To prevent this, Clarke green team has been working hard collecting signatures of Lexington residents. Many people in our community agree with this cause and support it. Single use plastic water bottles should be banned. Article 31 is planned on being talked about at the Town Meeting. We hope that this Article passes, and with the newspaper’s help, we think that this will publicize this important idea and ensure that some action is taken place on this behalf so that our Lexington community stays green.
