I am enthusiastically endorsing Jill Hai for re-election to a third term
on the Lexington Select Board.

The strength of the Select Board is dependent upon the unique expertise
and knowledge that each member brings to the table. In Jill’s case, she
is the only member with extensive labor experience due to her background
as a Labor and Employment attorney and as a Human Resources and Labor
Relations Director. The Select Board advises on negotiations and
approves all labor contracts for the town, representing a significant
proportion of our annual operating budget.

Additionally, Jill’s five years on the Capital Expenditures Committee,
four of which she was chair, make her undeniably the most experienced
member in terms of handling the details of large capital projects. This
is particularly important given the projects currently in the pipeline,
including the High School renovation / replacement.

Finally, another current member of the Board is well versed in the area
of sustainability and climate issues. It would make no sense to me to
remove all of Jill’s expertise from the Board and essentially duplicate
the strengths of someone who is already there and doing a good job.
Especially when Jill’s record on sustainability is so good anyway.

I hope you will join me in voting for Jill on Tuesday, March 5. We’re
lucky she’s running again and we desperately need her for the next three
years.
