As the organizers of Lexington Supports Serious Talks, we are writing to express our enthusiastic support for Kathleen Lenihan and Deepika Sawnhey, two of the three candidates running for Lexington School Committee. We urge you to join us in voting for them on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

Both Kathleen and Deepika have been unwavering in their commitment to the Serious Talks curriculum in our public schools. Serious Talks, in age-appropriate ways, teaches students of diverse identities and cultures how to learn together and address their differences with kindness, respect, and acceptance. Serious Talks promotes a safe, positive, and productive learning environment for all our children, and imparts skills to help them grow into constructive participants in our wondrously diverse world.

We are concerned that the third candidate actively opposes the Serious Talks curriculum and other important diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that are so important to the safety and growth of all of Lexington’s public school children. As of this date, he is the only candidate running for town-wide office who refused to answer LexPride’s social justice questionnaire, and he made his disdain for Serious Talks clear at the Lexington League of Women Voters Candidates forum (discussion starts at 58:10).

Kathleen Lenihan and Deepika Sawnhey have proven themselves to be reliable champions for all of Lexington’s children. We invite you to join us in voting for them on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

  1. “Serious Talks, in age-appropriate ways, teaches students of diverse identities and cultures how to learn together and address their differences with kindness, respect, and acceptance.” You forgot to add that Serious Talks is not a set curriculum. Teachers can teach this material HOWEVER they want and NOT inform parents as to what is taught. Additionally, as a parent you CANNOT request the curriculum.

  2. Very glad to see a new candidate for School Committee Johan Lindborg. Diversity of thought and evidence informed curriculum is welcomed on a committee that makes such important decisions for our towns children.
