Precinct: 6

Tell us a little about yourself. You can include your personal background, family, outside interests that are important to who you are as a person and a candidate.

My name is Brian Kelley and I am I lifelong Lexingtonian. I graduated LHS in 2000 and my wife, Olivia Cabrera Kelley, graduated LHS in 1997. I attended Union College and graduated in 2004 and moved into my current home on Grant St in 2006. Olivia and I are the proud parents of 3 young boys, all attending Fiske School, and we are proud Foster parents. I am the owner of Kellex LLC, a small contracting and property management business based here in Lexington. I have been a Town Meeting member since 2007 and I would appreciate your vote.

How has your past experience — whether in your professional life, elected office, or as a community leader — prepared you for a role in Town Meeting?

As a local business owner and lifelong resident, I have a unique perspective of the inner workings of Town Government, municipal services and the school system. I also have volunteered in many capacities in Town starting as a tour guide on the Battle Green in my teenage years and I currently serve as Chair of the Lincoln Park SubCommittee.

What is the most important issue in this election to you personally, and what ideas do you have about how to address this issue?

I believe that fiscal responsibility and accountability in municipal government is critical to best serving all Lexingtonians. There has been some consideration to charging a fee for certain curbside garbage collection services and I think that would be a big mistake. All Lexington residents benefit by high quality garbage and recycling collection services including bulk items and white goods and unnecessary regulation or a fee on those services would be punitive for elderly or lower and fixed income households. This is not the Lexington way. I will strive to make sure that we do what is best for ALL Lexington Residents.

Describe a time when you successfully collaborated with someone who held opposing views on a key issue:

In 2010 I successfully brought an article to Town Meeting to rezone land at the end of Woburn Street to accommodate a new 51 unit residential condominium development. Although this development was deemed large I was able to negotiate with multiple departments, committees and advocates for a positive outcome and we achieved a 2/3 majority Town Meeting vote in favor of my development. I’m proud to still be property manager of The Manor House at 2 Manor Terrace and believe that the project has been a positive asset for Lexington’s housing stock.

If there is anything else you would like to share with the town about you and your candidacy, please share here:

Having been born and raised here and being fortunate enough to raise my children here as well as run a business in Town, I have a unique knowledge and perspective of how Lexington works. My goal is to keep a close eye on political and legislative initiatives that will impact the daily lives of Lexington residents and insure that any such initiatives are done thoughtfully and with all residents in mind. Living and working in Lexington is a dream come true and my goal as a Town Meeting member will be to earn your vote every three years to continue to represent Precinct 6 as best as I can and I appreciate your consideration.
