Follen Christmas trees

On Dec. 3 the Follen Church Christmas Tree Lot kicked off its 50+-year tradition of selling Christmas trees. Each year the Mingo family of Maine delivers more than 800 fresh balsam firs to the Follen parking lot on Mass Ave. Our youth group stacks the trees and the next morning a merry squad of parishioners prices and hauls more than half of them onto the tree racks.

Follen’s founder, the noted abolitionist and Unitarian minister Charles Follen, brought the decorated tree tradition to America from his native Germany. The church also provides dozens of coupons for free trees to local service agencies so families in need can enjoy a Christmas tree this season.

Whatever your tradition, we wish you a joyous holiday season!
