Understanding Epilepsy

November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month. Did you know that 1 in 100 people live with epilepsy? Despite how common it is, public understanding is often shaped by movies, even though seizures don’t always look like they do on screen. For caregivers and families navigating the condition, it is also important to know that treatment options are rapidly evolving, opening up new possibilities for better management and quality of life.
On Wednesday, November 11, at 7 p.m., epileptologist Dr. Elizabeth A. Thiele (MGH) and author Lauren Seeley Aguirre, co-authors of “Epilepsy for Dummies,” will participate in a conversation and answer audience questions at Maxima Book Center in Lexington. Combining medical expertise with lived experience, the authors will explore the wide variety of seizure types, highlight modern treatment options, explain how epilepsy affects learning, and share actionable ways to support those affected.
This event is free and open to all community members, including families, caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals.
