Reporting Back From Palestine: Perspectives from the West Bank in 2024

June 12, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT
Free

Lexington for Palestine is an organization rooted in the community here in Massachusetts. We are also committed to learning about and recognizing the strengths of communities in Palestine. In this event, we introduce Lexington for Palestine, including our mission and our activities. Then we offer reports back from three community members who have been to Palestine in 2024. Anthropology professor Amahl Bishara offers a brief historical perspective on the Nakba. She introduces how people in Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem, have managed deadly and destructive military incursions in the last months and how people have cared for each other and friends in Gaza. Architect and urban designer Katie Flynn will present on the politics of space in Aida. She will discuss how a community-based organization is striving to grow space for a preschool. Ministry Associate at First Parish in Lincoln Sarah Klockowski will present on ongoing catastrophes of displacement in other parts of the West Bank, including the Hebron Hills, the city of Hebron, and East Jerusalem.
