Piano Extravaganza

September 30, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm EDT
$20 – $30

A long-time Lexington resident and a pianist, Wha Kyung Byun has taught at the New England Conservatory (NEC) for over 40 years with her husband, Russell Sherman. As a pianist, her playing has been described “rapturous” and “poetic” (Boston Globe). Wha Kyung dedicated herself to helping numerous outstanding students, and her devotion to education has been recognized with many prestigious awards.

Another Lexington resident and Wha Kyung’s student, HaeSun Paik has been hailed as a “sensitive and thinking musician with stunning virtuosity” (Los Angeles Times) and a “big and individual personality” (New York Times). She has won top prizes at international piano competitions including the Queen Elisabeth and the Tchaikovsky.

Korean Cultural Society of Boston (KCSB) headquartered in Lexington proudly presents “Piano Extravaganza” featuring not only these two magnificent pianists but also four other world-class pianists, Jung-Ja Kim, Minsoo Sohn, Chanyong Shin, and Hannah Byun. They represent three generations of pianists: Jung-Ja and Wha Kyung the first generation, HaeSun and Minsoo the second, and Chanyong and Hannah the third.

This concert showcases a rare program of all four-hand and two-piano works. Tickets are $30 ($20 senior) and free for students with ID. For a more complete biographies of the performers and the program, please visit www.kcsboston.org. Tickets can be purchased on the KCSB website as well.
