Get Ready to Vote! With the help of LHS students

Are you ready to vote?
Election Day, November 5, 2024, is fast approaching! Now’s the time to make sure you’re ready to vote! Among the influx of political information, it is crucial that you have the correct information when it comes to voting. So join us–Lexington High School students–on September 17th from 2:30 to 5pm in front of the Depot in Lexington Center. We’ll help you get ready to vote! We will have details on registering, early voting in person and by mail, and deadlines on the election itself. To sweeten the deal there will be lemonade and cupcakes. For those aged 16 to 17, there is also the opportunity to pre-register so that you are ready to vote in future elections. Any questions about the election can be answered here at this table.
It’s difficult to overstate the value of our votes. In a country with a population of nearly 333 million people, it can feel like our votes are insignificant, but they’re far from it. Our Town Clerk – the chief election official – Mary de Alderete – agrees with this and said “it’s a powerful tool to ensure our voices are heard effectively” – even in such a populated country. In fact, she elaborates and states that “voting has an impact on both the national and community level”. Every vote matters – this is stated in several amendments in the US Constitution (15th, 19th, 24th and 26th) which expand the right to vote and remove some barriers. So if you’re eligible – a US citizen and 18 or older – take part in this democratic process and use your voice.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Get Ready to Vote event on September 17!
