Community Announcement: Boston Public Library Fund launches summer Readathon

Readers of all ages are invited to set a reading goal and raise funds for the Boston Public Library Fund

This summer, the Boston Public Library Fund is proud to launch Brush Up Your Imagination—Color Your Reading!, a community-wide Readathon designed to inspire readers of all ages while raising essential funds to support the Boston Public Library (BPL). By combining personal reading goals with peer-to-peer fundraising, this initiative empowers participants to directly contribute to the Library’s mission to enhance library services and resources, free to all

From June 17 through August 25, participants are encouraged to set individual reading goals and invite friends, family and colleagues to sponsor their progress. Whether choosing to read a specific number of books or track hours spent reading, participants will help ensure that vital library services remain accessible to all.

“The Boston Public Library Fund’s Readathon is a way for everyone—from young readers to lifelong learners—to help strengthen and sustain the Boston Public Library’s role in our city,” said Paula Sakey, Executive Director of the Boston Public Library Fund. “Readers of every age are welcome—and caregivers, we invite you to sign up on behalf of your children, too!”

Joining is easy:

  • Set a reading goal—number of books or hours.
  • Create a fundraising page and share why the Library matters to you.
  • Invite friends, family, and colleagues to donate—for example, $5 per book or $1 per hour read.
  • Track your progress and post updates.
  • Celebrate your success and encourage others to join or donate.

The top three readathoners who generate the largest number of supporters for their campaign will receive a swag bag filled with custom BPL Fund merch including our limited-edition baseball hat, bookmarks, and much more.

All proceeds from the Readathon support critical Boston Public Library services, including early literacy programs, teen engagement, workforce readiness, and English-language classes and workshops.
