Lexington residents can expect a dynamic week of winter weather, featuring significant snowfall Sunday night into Monday, dangerously cold temperatures midweek, and a gradual warming trend toward the end of the week. The arrival of arctic air will bring the coldest temperatures of the season, with wind chills making outdoor activities hazardous. Dressing warmly and planning for icy conditions will be essential.

Sunday, January 19:
Rain will transition to snow in the afternoon as temperatures drop. The high will reach near 40°F with northwest winds at 5 to 8 mph shifting north by the afternoon. Snow will become heavy into the evening, with intense snowfall rates reducing visibility. Patchy fog and freezing fog are possible into the night. By late evening, temperatures will fall to around 14°F, with winds shifting northwest at 10 to 14 mph. Snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches is expected, creating hazardous travel conditions.

M.L.King Day, Monday, January 20:
The day will begin bitterly cold, with snow-covered surfaces and sunny skies. Temperatures will peak near 21°F by the afternoon, with west winds at 10 to 13 mph and gusts up to 24 mph creating an added chill. The night will bring mostly clear skies, with temperatures plummeting to around 5°F. Winds will ease slightly to around 7 mph but will still contribute to frigid conditions.

Tuesday, January 21:
The coldest air of the season settles under mostly sunny skies. Highs will only reach 16°F, with west winds at 6 to 9 mph intensifying the chill. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 2°F, with partly cloudy skies and light west winds maintaining the icy grip.

Wednesday, January 22:
Temperatures will hover near 16°F under mostly sunny skies, with northwest winds at 6 to 9 mph keeping the air feeling frigid. Overnight conditions will remain brutally cold, with lows falling to around 1°F under partly cloudy skies and light west winds.

Thursday, January 23:
Sunny skies will accompany a slight warming trend, with highs near 23°F. Southwest winds at 6 to 9 mph will keep the air crisp, though the day will feel milder compared to earlier in the week. Overnight, clouds will increase as temperatures dip to around 12°F, with southwest winds continuing.

Friday, January 24:
Partly sunny skies will bring the high to around 30°F, marking the first significant moderation in temperatures. West winds at 6 to 8 mph will provide a brisk feel but less biting than earlier days. Overnight, temperatures will remain steady, falling to about 18°F under partly cloudy skies.
