Undercurrents

Lexington-based Encore Dance Ensemble, a company of women ages 40+, presents “Undercurrents” at the Dance Complex, 536 Mass Ave, Cambridge on November 2 at 8 pm and November 3 at 7 pm.

The evening-length program presents modern, jazz, and improvisational choreography exploring love, loss, nature, memories, and the powerful ways relationships sustain us. Encore members draw on their life experiences as inspiration for their work. They share a passion for the art of dance and the fulfillment that comes with building community through outreach and performance.

Lexington resident, Jill Baker, is a dancer who has choreographed a piece called “Water Suite” about the three states of water. Baker says, “This is a series of dances exploring the phases of water. Using the sharp or soft, fast or slow movements of dance, we can explore experiences in an accessible, relatable way.”

Encore was honored to perform in May at the ceremony for Lexington Center’s new LexSeeHer monument, which commemorates women’s historical contributions to the town. Encore also performed in May for the seniors at the Lexington Community Center, with support from the Lexington Council for the Arts.
