I write to express my enthusiastic support for the election of Cindy Arens to Lexington’s Select Board. In a race blessed with more than one strong candidate, I believe that Cindy’s proven leadership, knowledge, expertise, and ability to work with Lexington’s diverse stakeholders on the most critical issues facing Lexington now would bring even greater excellence and effectiveness to our Select Board.
Cindy’s initiation, coordination, and leadership of a range of town wide climate and sustainability related causes have earned her widespread accolades. She guided the Clean Heat Alliance successfully through multiple challenging campaigns to win Town Meeting support for the electrification of new homes and businesses, introduced waste reduction programs in the schools, serves as a Town Meeting Member, and chairs the Town’s Sustainable Lexington Committee. Cindy has also worked with seniors to find ways for them to stay in their homes, and for many years has provided them with tax guidance and budgetary advice.
What has been so striking to me about Cindy is that she is not only extraordinarily knowledgeable about the issues (she is an engineer by training), but can guide both working groups and public discussions in a way that is not just informative and compelling, but also thoughtful. She’s a remarkable listener, open to hearing and taking seriously a range of questions and concerns. Addressing complex problems, she has masterfully guided our diverse community in arriving at sound, workable solutions that are celebrated locally and also viewed as models for municipalities across the state and beyond. I feel fortunate to have been able to work with and learn from Cindy. She would be a wonderful addition to the Select Board. Please cast your vote for Cindy Arens on March 5!
