The following incidents were selected from the Lexington Police Department log during the week leading up to March 2. The Lexington Observer does not independently verify this information.
Assault and Battery
Thursday, February 26 at 12:05 a.m., a call came in from an individual at Polyken Technologies on Hartwell Ave. reporting an assault and battery. He requested medics for a laceration to the face. The individual was transported to Leahy, and the other individual involved will be summoned for assault and battery.
Community Engagement
Wednesday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m., Lieutenant Dunbar attended a Lexington Human Rights Committee meeting.
Thursday, February 26 at 10:30 a.m., Detectives Chasisson, Hankins, and Sullivan spoke to students of the Children’s Center of Lexington about being a police officer and a community caretaker. Then the children were given a tour of the police station and shown a police cruiser.
Sunday, March 1 at 5:40 p.m., Officer Barry monitored the Lantern Parade led by the Legacy Cultural Center toward Buckman Tavern.
Community Engagement – Comfort Dogs
Wednesday, February 25 at 11:30 a.m., Detective Sullivan and K9 Maisey visited Clark Middle School. They greeted students and staff in the cafeteria and guidance office.
Thursday, February 26 at 1:15 p.m., Detective Hankins and K9 Watson visited with students and staff at Lexington High School.
Disturbance
Wednesday, February 25 at 12:40 p.m., an MBTA bus driver flagged down an officer for assistance with an unruly passenger. The driver reported that the woman regularly took the bus from Bedford to the bus stop near Wilson’s Farm. The driver did not want the young woman on her bus due to “unwarranted aggressive behavior.” There had been no physical contact, then the unknown woman spat at the bus driver’s plexiglass shield. When informed she had to get off the bus, the woman eventually exited and was picked up by a vehicle. The bus driver will notify her supervisor of the incident.
Animal Control and Complaints
Along with 2 reports of sick raccoons, it was a tough week for skunks in Lexington… there were 5 reports regarding sick and/or injured creatures in yards on Martingale Rd, Richmond Circle, Wingate Road, Smith Street, and the bike path.
Friday, February 27 at 5:10 p.m., an individual reported a man appeared to be “dragging his dog” down Spring Street toward Waltham. The responding officer reported that he did not locate the person anywhere nearby.
Friday, February 27 at 6:15 p.m., a caller reported a gray and white cat had been struck by a car, and it was off to the side of the road. The responding officer checked the area for a potential owner, but he was unable to locate anyone. He checked with neighbors in the area, but no one knew the cat. DPW was notified.
Fraud
Tuesday, February 24 at 3:50 p.m., a Trotting Horse Dr. resident reported she received an email stating she “needed to give money.” PayPal sent her a notification for a $750 charge and provided a phone number to call. The operator stated she was mistakenly given $110,000, and they needed it back. This resident went to Cambridge Bank to wire the money, and the bank teller notified her that it was a scam. No money had been transferred. There was no monetary loss at this time, and she was advised to monitor her accounts and report any fraudulent activity to her bank. The responding officer had advised her about credit protection services that could help her in these situations.
Wednesday, February 25 at 4:05 p.m., a Flintlock Rd. resident reported she had been the victim of fraud. She reported an unknown individual withdrew approximately $35,000 from her Cambridge Savings Bank HELOC. This resident had already reported this to the Cambridge Savings Bank. It is not known at this time if she will be reimbursed.
Friday, February 27 at 10:45 a.m., a Vynebrook Village resident reported fraud involving his checking account. Attempts had been made to cash several checks from a copy of one of his bank checks in South Carolina. Cambridge Savings Bank notified this resident about the fraudulent activity. He was advised to report the fraud to the police, and there is no monetary loss at this time.
