I am extremely happy that Mona Roy is offering herself to serve on the School Committee.
I have known Mona for over 2 decades, going back to when our children attended Bowman Elementary. Even then, she stood out — not by being loud, but by being present. She showed up, listened, engaged, volunteered, and cared. At school events, science fairs, and the Bowman UN celebrations, she helped children and families feel seen and valued, quietly building community through attention and effort.
Over the years, Mona as a community leader has continued to serve Lexington in countless ways: on town committees, in our schools, and as an advocate for inclusion, mental health, and students with special needs. She has served on PTAs across schools, chaired the Human Rights Committee, worked on town-wide initiatives including Lex250, and been a tireless advocate for students with special needs, mental health and inclusion. In every role, she comes prepared, asks the right questions, listens carefully, and helps find solutions that serve the whole community.
As an attorney, Mona brings a sharp ability to navigate complex issues with clarity and fairness. As a Town Meeting Member, I have served alongside her and seen firsthand how prepared, thoughtful, and purposeful she is in her work.
I also work with Mona through the Indians Getting Involved Group (GIG), where she encourages others to step forward and participate in civic life. She balances all of this with a demanding family life and her work as an attorney, teacher, and musician, bringing steadiness, warmth, and creativity to everything she does.
While there may be no contest on the ballot, it is reassuring to know that our schools will benefit from someone who understands this town, respects its people, and genuinely cares about its children.
Again, I am extremely happy that Mona Roy is offering herself to serve on the School Committee. Thank you Mona.
Sincerely,
Syed Ali Rizvi
