Last Saturday, Munroe Center for the Arts welcomed more than 300 people to the first ever LexLux Illumination Night, kicking off two weeks of illuminations town-wide. This event would not have been such a success without support from residents, civic organizations, and town departments.

Thank you to our working group who listened to our ideas and added their own, helped spread the word, encouraged people to volunteer, and lit up area buildings: Anne Lee and Craig Sandler (Lexington Historic Society), Archana Singhal (Indian Americans of Lexington), Melanie Lin and Hua Wang (Chinese Americans of Lexington), Matthew Siegal (LexArt), Margaret Coppe (Tourism Comm), Jillian Tung (Lex250), Sandhya Iyer (Economic Development Office), Alethea Roy (LPS Visual Arts Dept), Koren Stembridge, Helen Lui, and Susan Eastland (Cary Library), and Alix Fox and Claudia Latch (Lexington Arts Council).

Thank you to the volunteers who helped create lanterns, take photos, and set up/clean up the event: Ting and Alice Fang, Jessie Chen, Alice Deldonno, Hannah Sul, Khadijah Mohmand, Koren Stembridge, Sarah McDonough, Ana and Malcolm Burwell, Drew and Laurie Dell’Olio, Sandhya Kalkunte, Mark Manasas, Meg Muckenhoupt, Pam and Frank Smith, Sue Offsey, Meghna Rajesh, Sue Alvarado, Myra Luharuka, Leeying Wu, Star Lancaster, Nate Sheehan, Cindy Woolworth, Mike Ames, Bryan Steele, and to everyone who pitched in!

Thank you to our artistsShehab Hossain, who created LED spirograph portraits non-stop, Tova Speter and Emily Bhargava of Brighter Ignited and Share Your Light interactive light sculptures, and the Lexington Youth STEAM Team Initiative who created amazing projections onto the Depot building – led by Dr. Wei Ding and her team, Claire Liu, Joley Leung, Sophia Zhou, and Isabella Li. Also thanks to Mark Manasas from Lexington Lyceum Advocates for his technical prowess, Levon Fox from High Output for launching advice, and to our drone photographer, Ian Burwell!

A shout out to the Town Manager’s Office, Economic Development Office, DPW, and Police Department! We feel blessed to have this kind of support for community fun. Thank you to the Inn at Hastings Park for hot chocolate and Troop 313 for the campfire that warmed us all.

Thanks to sculptors Bill Turville and Andy Zimmerman for the illuminated sculptures on MCA’s front lawn, and to the Mass Cultural Council for their funding through the Festivals, Cultural Districts, and Local Cultural Council grants.

You all make Lexington a great place to call home.

With kindest regards,
