SUMMARY:“Driven By Abstraction” - Monday Art Collective Closes Summer Exhibition at the Old Schwamb Mill
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 22\, from 2:00–3:30 PM\, visitors are invited to enjoy one last opportunity to experience this vibrant exhibition of contemporary art in the Mill’s historic second-floor galleries. Showcasing painting\, drawing\, printmaking\, collage\, and mixed media\, Driven by Abstraction highlights the creativity and diverse artistic voices of the Monday Art Collective\, a group of Boston-area artists brought together through a shared commitment to experimentation\, collaboration\, and mutual support. \nThe Monday Art Collective is a group of dedicated visual artists\, primarily based in the Boston area\, who have met weekly for the past four years to create art\, exchange ideas\, and support one another’s artistic growth. Originally brought together through workshops led by Cambridge artist Alexandra Sheldon\, the group continued meeting virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic after studio classes could no longer be held in person. What began as a way to combat artistic isolation soon evolved into a lasting creative community. \nOver time\, the Collective’s artistic practices have expanded beyond the collage work that initially connected many of its members. Today\, the group explores a wide range of media\, including painting\, drawing\, printmaking\, and mixed media. The exhibition at the Old Schwamb Mill reflects this diversity of approach while highlighting the shared spirit of experimentation\, collaboration\, and encouragement that defines the Collective. \nVisitors to the exhibition will encounter a thoughtful and varied collection of contemporary works created by eight women artists whose practices continue to evolve through dialogue\, friendship\, and mutual inspiration.

SUMMARY:Help Shape the Town’s Waste Collection Program
DESCRIPTION:The Town is preparing to roll out a modernized waste collection program in the summer of 2027 that will help control rising costs and reduce waste. The new system will include transitioning to automated collection\, which will mean residents will be provided with new wheeled carts for both trash and recycling. Trash\, recycling\, and compost will continue to be picked up weekly. \nThis fall\, the Select Board will be finalizing the updated program design. The Board will be making decisions such as what size carts will be provided\, what options are available for overflow waste\, and what flexibility can be built into the program for residents with varied needs. \nBefore finalizing the program\, we want to hear from you! Town staff will be hosting a series of community meetings to get input from residents on program design options. \nPlease consider attending one of the upcoming meetings to learn more about the upcoming changes and to weigh in on which option you prefer. \nThe meeting on August 26th has both in-person and virtual attendance options. You can join in person at the Lexington Community Center Dining Room or virtually (Zoom link).
