SUMMARY:Flavors and Recipes of Venezuela with Chef Emilia Montero
DESCRIPTION:Join Chef Emilia Montero for an evening of Venezuelan cuisine! Venezuelan culture is rich with a variety of delicious traditional dishes. In this class\, we will focus on one of our most beloved foods: Venezuelan empanadas filled with shredded chicken or black beans. These are circular cornmeal dough pieces that we’ll fill with shredded chicken and black beans and then are fried until golden and crunch time. \nYou’ll learn how to make a perfectly crispy empanada dough with a delicious flavor. We’ll also enjoy them with Art Cooks’ signature Garlic Sauce\, a flavorful Phillip Salad (our own version of coleslaw)\, and for dessert\, a traditional Venezuelan Tres Leches cake. \nThis class is BYOM – feel free to bring your own margarita\, favorite beer\, or bottle of wine\, especially if it would pair well with the dishes. \n  \nAbout Emilia: \nMy name is Emilia Montero. I’m Venezuelan\, married to Arthur\, and we have a daughter named Andrea. I am a Biologist\, Neuroscientist\, and Chef\, as well as the owner and founder of Art Cooks\, a family-owned meal prep and catering business specializing in Latin American fusion cuisine. Based in Lexington\, we started operations in 2021 and have been sharing our love for food ever since. \nThis is a cooking demonstration class. While attendees will have a chance to participate by filling and forming empanadas themselves\, the majority of the cooking in the class will be conducted by Chef Montero. Attendees will be served a sampling of each dish prepared during class. \nPlease note: If for any reason a class needs to be canceled\, we will postpone it to another date. Refunds will be given to those unable to make the new date.

SUMMARY:Lexington High School Winterfest
DESCRIPTION:An annual highlight of the LHS Performing Arts calendar\, Winterfest is a two-night celebration of student-created plays hosted in LHS’s Black Box Theater. It’s a unique opportunity for students to play all the roles–writing\, acting\, directing\, and more–in creating original pieces of theater. The performance is headlined by a derived piece\, created from scratch by a group of students under the guidance of drama teacher Zachary McCoubry\, followed by the premieres of several student-written and student-directed one-act plays. Finally\, to cap off a trifecta of student-created theatrical delights\, there will be a short performance by the LHS Improv Troupe as well.\n\nThis year’s Winterfest is scheduled for January 24 and 25\, at 7 p.m. The event is free\, although donations are welcome.\n\nFor questions\, contact Matt Linden and/or Zachary McCoubry at mlinden@lexingtonma.org and zmccoubry@lexingtonma.org.

SUMMARY:Track & Field Winter Clinic (Middle School)
DESCRIPTION:While the Diamond and Clarke Cross County / Track & Field programs dominate in the fall and the spring\, there have been no opportunities to participate in organized track & field during the winter in Lexington. Beginning in 2023\, the LHS XC/Track program decided to change that. \n \nOur Winter Clinic provides middle school-aged kids a fun\, pressure-free environment to train with the LHS coaches and work directly with our student-athletes\, who will become their teammates at the high school. At the clinic\, we play games\, work on some track & field specific events\, and finish with a track meet and prizes. Just as important\, the clinic also allows our high school students the opportunity to mentor the next generation of kids in town. \n \nThis clinic is open to middle school students aged eleven (11) to fourteen (14) and runs December 26th to 28th from 3-6 pm at the Lexington High School Field House.  Please use the QR code above to register your child for our clinic.
