She established and maintained a 20\,000-square-foot food production garden that provides produce to the Marlboro and Maynard Food Pantries. Her primary interest and focus is the science behind horticulture. \nGretel will discuss how the soil’s quality and makeup greatly influence how well plants will do. Unlike sunlight\, air\, and water (the other three requirements)\, soil quality cannot be determined by simply looking or even by looking at the plants. This leaves the home’s occupants to take in the news and prepare for what is to come. In a series of three short plays by playwright Debbie Wiess\, see how John Hancock and Samuel Adams\, leaders of the Revolution\, Dorothy Quincy and Lydia Hancock\, John’s family\, and Jonas and Lucy Clarke\, town leaders\, process the impending crisis as they prepare for war in the very rooms in which these conversations took place two hundred and fifty years ago.\n\nThis program is funded in part by Kirkland and Shaw Plumbing and Heating\, and by a grant from the Lexington Council for the Arts\, a local agency that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, a state agency.\n\n$20 members\, $25 nonmembers

The League of Women Voters of Lexington is pleased to host Pol Antras\, the Robert G. Ory Professor of Economics at Harvard University where he has taught since 2003 to answer those questions and more. \nHe is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER)\, where he served as Director of the International Trade and Organization (ITO) Working Group. He is also a Research Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and is a member of CESifo’s Research Network. \nHe served as Editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics from 2015 until 2022\, having previously been on the editorial board of the American Economic Review\, the Review of Economic Studies\, the Journal of International Economics\, and the Annual Review of Economics\, among other journals. He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Barcelona School of Economics. Among other distinctions\, he was awarded an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in 2007 and the Fundacion Banco Herrero Prize in 2009\, and he was elected Fellow to the Econometric Society in 2015\, and a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2024. \nAntras’ teaching and research fields are international economics and applied theory. His most recent work is focused on global value chains\, the interplay between globalization and interest rates\, globalization and market power\, and international relations. \nA citizen of Spain\, Antras received his BA and MSc in Economics from Universitat Pompeu in Barcelona\, and his PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003. \nThis program is the fifth in the 2024-2025 LWV First Friday Forum series hosted by the League of Women Voters to promote awareness and understanding of public policy issues. \nLex Media will record the program for future viewing.
