Learn how simple chores like writing a letter\, working in the barn\, or caring for a sick person utilize chemistry and physics. As we explore a historic tavern\, we’ll become household scientists: making medicine by grinding herbs from the garden\, using simple tools\, and observing chemical reactions in making ink and butter.\n\nThis program is recommended for 6th – 7th graders.\n\n$15 members\, $20 nonmembers.\n\nAdvanced tickets are required. This program will focus on native plants\, ferns\, and flowers\, that grow well in shade and make great combinations to brighten up the darker parts of any garden. \nLeslie Duthie is a retired ecological horticulturist. She worked for over 45 years with native plants\, growing\, planting\, and caring for many native species. She has a wealth of experience to share with audiences and is always willing to provide advice and tips on growing native species (they evolved here\, they are the easiest to grow!). Leslie is the president of the Opacum Land Trust\, serves on the board of the Ecological Landscape Alliance\, and volunteers in her spare time at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill.

Our seed-feeding discussion will cover all the different Aspen Song branded wild bird feed blends and the ingredients that are used in each of the blends\, making each a unique choice based on which types of birds a consumer is interested in attracting. We will also talk about hummingbird feeding using the Sweet-Nectar branded hummingbird nectar\, how to attract hummingbirds\, and appropriate feeder placement during the summer months. While this seminar is focused on the Aspen Song wild bird food and Sweet-Nectar branded hummingbird nectar\, the knowledge about seed\, nectar\, and feeder preferences of common backyard birds can be applied to any brand and any backyard!\n\nAbout the Presenter:\n\nJosh Stasik holds a B.S. in Biology from SUNY Cortland in Cortland\, NY\, and is currently the President of the Wild Bird Feeding Institute’s (WBFI) Research Foundation. He has held previous positions on the Montezuma Audubon Center’s Advisory Board in Central\, NY as well as a seat on the board of directors for the Skaneateles Early Childhood Center in Skaneateles\, NY.Josh has been feeding his backyard birds since childhood and has worked in the wild bird food industry for the past decade. Taking the approach of “never working a day in your life if you love what you do\,” he partnered with a few of his friends to create a small “micro-batch” bird food company called Sweet-Seed\, LLC. Sweet-Seed initially created wild bird food blends sold to local gift shops and markets but has since switched focus to concentrate primarily on a unique\, all-natural\, hummingbird food\, branded as Sweet-Nectar.\n\nIt was through the connections made selling Sweet-Nectar that Josh became acquainted with the Aspen Song brand of wild bird food and moved into the wild bird director position for the brand. As the key contact for all sales and marketing initiatives\, Josh is now able to travel throughout the Northeastern territory of the US not only sharing his knowledge but also learning from other bird enthusiasts he meets along the way.

These are circular cornmeal dough pieces that we’ll fill with shredded chicken and black beans and then are fried until golden and crunch time. \nYou’ll learn how to make a perfectly crispy empanada dough with a delicious flavor. SUMMARY:Lexington High School Winterfest
DESCRIPTION:An annual highlight of the LHS Performing Arts calendar\, Winterfest is a two-night celebration of student-created plays hosted in LHS’s Black Box Theater. It’s a unique opportunity for students to play all the roles–writing\, acting\, directing\, and more–in creating original pieces of theater. The performance is headlined by a derived piece\, created from scratch by a group of students under the guidance of drama teacher Zachary McCoubry\, followed by the premieres of several student-written and student-directed one-act plays. Finally\, to cap off a trifecta of student-created theatrical delights\, there will be a short performance by the LHS Improv Troupe as well.\n\nThis year’s Winterfest is scheduled for January 24 and 25\, at 7 p.m. The event is free\, although donations are welcome.\n\nFor questions\, contact Matt Linden and/or Zachary McCoubry at mlinden@lexingtonma.org and zmccoubry@lexingtonma.org.
