SUMMARY:"In The Footsteps of the American Revolutionary War" Artist Talk with Steven Edson
DESCRIPTION:The 250th anniversary of the American Revolution has prompted locals to revisit and reconsider our town landmarks. Bare fields and unassuming streetcorners hold stories that only the most ardent history lovers remember\, some marked with worn signs and others nearly lost to time. Others teem with tour guides and attract visitors from near and far. Steven Edson’s photography of these modern Revolutionary locations\, currently on display at Munroe Tavern\, urges the public to reconsider the spaces they drive by and inhabit every day. Join the artist for a discussion of this project\, our relationship with the historical landscape around us\, and further images from this collection.\n\nDoors will open at 6:30 for exhibit viewing and an artist meet and greet.\n\n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers\n\nAbout the Artist:\nSteven Edson started photographing in the early 1970s\, shooting primarily black and white documentary street photography. After graduating with a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design\, he became a successful and award-winning freelance photographer working on project-based client international projects in editorial\, education\, corporate design\, and advertising campaigns. He currently shows his fine art images in solo and national group shows and sells his images to both corporate collections and personal collectors.

SUMMARY:Nicolas Emden & Jerry Martinez Open Harmony on the Green's Fourth Season
DESCRIPTION:Harmony on the Green Coffeehouse Concerts opens its 4th season with two artists who so impressed us when they performed for us as opening acts that we’ve invited them to come back at the top of the bill!  Nicolas Emden is a Chilean-born singer-songwriter who will be appearing with his duo. His music navigates the waters of pop\, rock\, and South American folk\, creating a distinctive South Americana indie folk rock sound\, with evocative Spanish lyrics. \nJerry Martinez has been active in the local (and not so local) music scene for over 4 decades. He is a songwriter\, guitarist\, and singer steeped in the Americana\, Singer/Songwriter\, Blues\, and Folk traditions. His vocals\, described as “soulful and powerful”\, drive home the often poignant messages in his songs. The years of playing have honed his acoustic guitar chops into a distinctive flat-picking/finger-picking hybrid\, all his. \nHarmony on the Green is located at Hancock Church\, 1912 Massachusetts Avenue. We have ample parking on the street and in our back parking lot\, with accessible spots. Our building is wheelchair accessible\, and we have single-user accessible bathrooms. SUMMARY:An Evening with Sol y Canto!
DESCRIPTION:The Bedford Cultural District’s New Song Music Series is pleased to present the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble Sol y Canto on September 27 at 7:30 pm. \nThe group is led by Puerto Rican/Argentine vocalist and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador. With Rosi’s crystalline vocals\, Brian’s lush Spanish guitar\, and the soulful harmonies of cellist/singer Queralt Giralt\, the trio creates music that’s both heartfelt and exhilarating. Their original songs and fresh takes on Latin classics invite audiences—Spanish- and non-Spanish-speaking alike—to laugh\, cry\, dance\, and reflect. Known for vibrant three-part harmonies\, rhythmic drive\, and vocal improvisation\, Sol y Canto sounds like a much larger ensemble. Since 1994\, they’ve captivated audiences from the Kennedy Center to Boston’s Symphony Hall. The Boston Globe calls them “sublime ambassadors of the Pan-Latin tradition.” \nThe concert will be held in Bedford Town Hall’s Reed Room. Doors open at 6:45 pm\, stop in for a light snack or dessert before the music starts at 7:30 pm. Buy tickets at https://newsongbedford.org/.

SUMMARY:Book Chat on 'The Men Who Lost America' by Andrew Jackson O'Shaughnessy
DESCRIPTION:Stereotypes about the British military during the American Revolution are countless\, and often contradictory. Did England possess the most professional fighting force in the world\, or did they bumble through New England\, clinging tightly to outdated tactics while shrewd farmers rewrote the rules around them? Historian Andrew O’Shaughnessy untangles this web by following several prominent British leaders\, including George III himself\, to reveal the real competence\, as well as the human folly\, of the Crown and its representatives. Join us for a lively discussion\, lead by British military reenactor and historian Paul O’Shaughnessy\, on The Men Who Lost America.\n\nReading Into History: Book Chats is a series of informal discussions of historical topics inspired by nonfiction history books\, and led by authors\, historians and local history enthusiasts. All are welcome; reading the book is not required\, but will enhance the experience!\n\n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers
