SUMMARY:Book Chat on Poor Richard's Women
DESCRIPTION: Behind any founding father are numerous founding mothers\, sisters\, and lovers. Benjamin Franklin had a large cast of women in his life\, most importantly his wife of 44 years\, Deborah Read Franklin. While frequently absent from the historical narrative due to their frequent time apart\, Deborah was an important witness to and active participant in the political workings of the early Revolution\, running the family businesses and raising a family in tumultuous times with her husband often away. Then\, as Franklin traveled the globe\, his social circle also expanded to include landladies and liaisons in London and Paris. Join us to discuss Nancy Rubin Stuart’s exploration of history’s forgotten heroines.\n\n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers\n\nPlease note that due to construction at the Depot\, Book Chats for the 2024-25 season will take place in the archives and Research Center at Munroe Tavern.

SUMMARY:Lexington Field & Garden Club presents “Preparing the Soil for Gardening” with Gretel Anspach
DESCRIPTION:Lexington Field & Garden Club presents \n“Preparing the Soil for Gardening” with Gretel Anspach \nGretel Anspach is a Trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society\, a Lifetime Master Gardner\, and a recently retired systems engineer for Raytheon. She established and maintained a 20\,000-square-foot food production garden that provides produce to the Marlboro and Maynard Food Pantries. Her primary interest and focus is the science behind horticulture. \nGretel will discuss how the soil’s quality and makeup greatly influence how well plants will do. Unlike sunlight\, air\, and water (the other three requirements)\, soil quality cannot be determined by simply looking or even by looking at the plants. She will cover structure\, compaction fertility\, and pH\, and talk about how these qualities can be modified to create a more successful garden. \nThis event is Free!  \n6:30 PM Refreshments\, 7 PM meeting \nStreet parking is available along Mass Ave and Follen Rd. Carpooling might be advisable. \nhttp://lexgarden.org

They help their children develop positive social identities\, express comfort and joy with human differences\, and form deep\, caring connections.”

SUMMARY:Alarmed in Lexington
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to experience the anxious hours before the start of the American Revolution. It’s past midnight on April 19th\, 1775\, and Paul Revere has just left the home of Lexington’s minister\, Jonas Clarke\, with news of an impending British attack. This leaves the home’s occupants to take in the news and prepare for what is to come. In a series of three short plays by playwright Debbie Wiess\, see how John Hancock and Samuel Adams\, leaders of the Revolution\, Dorothy Quincy and Lydia Hancock\, John’s family\, and Jonas and Lucy Clarke\, town leaders\, process the impending crisis as they prepare for war in the very rooms in which these conversations took place two hundred and fifty years ago.\n\nThis program is funded in part by Kirkland and Shaw Plumbing and Heating\, and by a grant from the Lexington Council for the Arts\, a local agency that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, a state agency.\n\n$20 members\, $25 nonmembers

SUMMARY:Peter Mulvey to play at Harmony on the Green with Ruth Theodore (Andrew Sue Wing opens)
DESCRIPTION:Peter Mulvey has been a songwriter\, road dog\, raconteur\, and almost-poet for over 30 years. Twenty albums\, one illustrated book\, thousands of live performances\, a TEDx talk\, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp\, opening tours and gigs for luminaries such as Ani DiFranco\, Greg Brown\, Emmylou Harris and Chuck Prophet\, appearances on NPR\, an annual autumn tour by bicycle\, emceeing festivals and hosting his own Lamplighter Sessions for years in Boston and in Wisconsin — he has built his life’s work on collaboration\, on an instinct for the eclectic and the vital. \nJoining Peter will be Ruth Theodore\, Peter’s labelmate on Righteous Babe Records! Ruth is a seasoned British songwriter and producer whose work fascinates audiences with its gripping honesty and distinctive lyricism. A cancer diagnosis and treatment throughout a global pandemic would have floored most human beings but even writing from the chemo chair\, Ruth kept on creating and has emerged fearless from the flames with over two albums worth of new material and a tireless creative drive to share her perspectives through her renowned original art.\n\nPerforming over an array of unconventional guitar tunings\, and obscure yet cunningly catchy piano\, Ruth’s songs of life\, death\, love\, the human condition\, science and let’s face it… by now pretty much everything\, are that of a skilled writer in command of\, and having fun with\, the idea of contemporary songwriting. Delivered with effortless unapologetic passion\, Theodore’s live performances will take you places and make you laugh and cry\, often both at once. Expect captivating vocal dexterity\, musical prowess\, disarming wisdom\, and poetic originality.\n\nHaving self-produced three of her own critically acclaimed records to date\, and following her most recent collaboration with award-winning US producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose (Anais Mitchell/Ani Difranco)\, Ruth is back collaborating as co-producer with Todd and percussionist Mathias Kunzli (Regina Spektor\, Lauryn Hill). Her 2024 release is “I am I am.”\n\nAndrew Sue Wing is a Boston-based singer/songwriter and guitarist specializing in funk-rock. Equipped with a strong baritone voice and a unique style of rhythm and lead guitar\, he’s able to belt out strong choruses and deliver soulful ballads. His repertoire includes both originals and covers of classics. With influences such as Stevie Wonder\, Sam Cooke\, John Scofield\, and John Mayer\, his originals combine blues\, rock\, funk\, and soul.
