DESCRIPTION:Silent Spring Institute\, a scientific research organization based in Newton\, Massachusetts\, and one of the nation’s leading authorities on environmental risk factors for cancer and other diseases\, is excited to offer the Silent Spring Summer Institute\, now in its second year. This free virtual program is designed for high school students interested in learning about environmental health or considering a degree or career in STEM. \n  \nProgram Dates: July 6 to 10\, 2026 (daily\, from 4:00 – 5:30 PM ET) \nLocation: Online through Zoom \nRegistration for the program closes on June 5\, 2026. \n  \nStudents will learn how our everyday environments—the water we drink\, the air we breathe\, the food we eat\, and the products we use—shape our health and well-being and how science can advance solutions to reduce disease risk and create healthier communities.  \n  \nThe program is open to high school students\, grades 9 – 12 (middle school students aged 13 and up are also welcome) and participants will receive a certificate upon completion.  \n  \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Kids Summer Filmmaking Class
DESCRIPTION:LexMedia is hosting its popular kids filmmaking class again this August. Similar to last year\, students will showcase their imagination by creating a short film that will be shown to family and friends at the end of the week. Under the guidance of our skilled staff\, students will learn the basics of acting\, improvisation\, and camera skills in order to bring their visions to life both during the class and in future endeavors. \nThe action-packed week cultivates the students’ creativity in a positive environment and allows them to explore their creative potential. The culmination of their effort premieres at a celebratory party with family\, friends\, and popcorn! \nAs part of the class\, every child will learn about a Sony PXW x70 camera\, tripods\, boom mics\, lighting\, the green screen\, as well as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro editing software. There will also be an opportunity for them to create their own project\, either solo or with other campers. \nThe class runs from Monday\, August 10th to Friday\, August 14th from 10:00 am (drop-off as early as 9:00 am) to 3:00 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Registration is open for the 2026 Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber\, presented by Hyundai. Scheduled for Sunday\, Oct. 4\, funds raised from the Walk support all forms of adult and pediatric care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The 2026 event will aim to raise $10 million in support of Dana-Farber’s mission to defy cancer by leading the way in groundbreaking research and lifesaving patient care. \nThe Details: \nThe Jimmy Fund Walk is the only organized walk permitted to use the famed Boston Marathon® course\, and participants have the flexibility to choose from four distance options: \n\n5K walk: Starting at Dana-Farber’s Longwood Medical Campus\n10K walk: Starting in Newton\nHalf Marathon walk: Starting in Wellesley\nMarathon walk: Starting in Hopkinton\n\nAlong the route\, participants will be motivated by Hero posters\, photos\, and quotes from Dana-Farber patients\, who are considered the heart and inspiration for the event. Walkers will also enjoy refreshments and cheer squads throughout the course. \nThe event will conclude at the Boston Common Finish Line\, by the corner of Charles and Beacon Streets. Finish line activities will include a celebration with food\, entertainment\, and more.
