SUMMARY:LexSeeHer Monument Breaking Ground Ceremony and 2023 Spinning Tableau
DESCRIPTION:Help launch the first phase of construction for the new monument “Something Is Being Done” while also honoring the historic Spinning Protest organized by Anna Harrington back in 1769. Participants will ‘Remember the Lexington Ladies’ by wearing period-appropriate hats\, caps\, and aprons. \nYou can get into the spirit of the event by wearing period clothing\, or by dressing in this year’s event theme colors: black\, purple\, yellow\, and pink. Enjoy the spinning demonstration\, and help lend a hand as LexSeeHer puts a fresh spin on women’s importance in the years leading up to the Revolution. Don’t miss the chance to sign the ribbons that will be used for the Ribbon Cutting event after the plaza is complete! \nAnna Harrington was 29 years old when she hosted 45 ‘ladies’ and their spinning wheels at her home. This was a woman-centered form of protest\, and a way that women could contribute to the economic\, political\, and social scene. \nMeredith Bergmann has been commissioned by LexSeeHer\, Inc\, to sculpt a new monument for the town. It includes Anna Harrington as one of the 18th century honorees. Lexington Historical Society and LexArt are co-sponsoring this year’s event. Individuals and organizations are welcome to join in as LexSeeHer makes historic women visible!

SUMMARY:“Who’s Hungry?” Family Storytime Event Ignites Community Conversation on Food Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Food Link is a food rescue organization based in Arlington with a presence in 47 communities\, including Lexington. We are co-hosting an exciting event with local children’s author Toni Buzzeo\, local business Maxima Book Center\, and two area nonprofits – Project Bread and Arlington EATS. \nLatest data from the Household Pulse Survey reports that 1 in 4 households with children in Massachusetts are experiencing food insecurity. For Black and Latino households with children\, that number jumps to 1 in 3.\nPre-pandemic\, the number for all households with children was around 1 in 11. In response\, regional nonprofits have joined together to address the need and educate people about this growing issue. Reduction in SNAP benefits\, uncertainty about extended statewide free school meals\, and ongoing inflation leaves food insecurity hovering near pandemic highs three years after the start of the crisis. \nFamilies are invited to join a unique and engaging storytelling session focused on the universal theme of food\, with beloved Arlington author\, Toni Buzzeo. The event aims to highlight the importance of food security while also celebrating the magic of storytime.
