SUMMARY:Vintage Romance: Valentine's Cake Decorating Class with Cake Niche (Night 1)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to decorate a cake in a vintage style in this workshop with Anna Abbanat from Cake Niche. \nCelebrate Valentine’s Day with buttercream\, romance\, and a whole lot of vintage flair! In this hands-on cake decorating class\, you’ll learn how to create a Lambeth-style (also known as “vintage”) heart cake—think elegant piping\, frills\, swags\, and classic over-the-top charm. \nEach participant will receive a prepared 5 inch two-layer heart-shaped cake\, ready to decorate from start to finish. When you sign up\, you’ll choose the flavor (chocolate or vanilla) and filling (chocolate mousse\, whipped cream\, or raspberry mousse). \nDuring class\, you’ll get to choose your frosting colors and decoration style\, making your cake totally unique—soft and romantic\, bold and dramatic\, or anything in between. We’ll cover piping techniques\, design ideas\, and tips for achieving that iconic vintage Lambeth look\, whether you’re a beginner or just looking to refine your skills. \nYou’ll leave with a beautifully decorated heart cake\, new decorating techniques\, and the perfect edible Valentine (for a loved one… or yourself). No prior decorating experience required—just come ready to have fun and get a little sweet! \nAbout Cake Niche: \nHi I’m Anna! I’ve worked as a cake artist across the U.S.\, from Boston to Wisconsin to Los Angeles\, and now I’m thrilled to own Cake Niche in Lexington Center. While in Los Angeles\, I had the incredible opportunity to create cakes for celebrities such as Pink\, Ken Jeong\, and Tyler Florence of The Great Food Truck Race. After years of traveling and honing my craft\, I decided to move back to the Boston area to be closer to my family and because I truly missed the charm and community of New England. Having grown up in Somerville and Winchester\, Massachusetts\, I’m especially excited to bring my passion for cake artistry back home and share it with the Lexington community. \n  \nPlease note: if for any reason a class needs to be cancelled\, we will postpone to another date. Refunds will be given to those unable to make the new date.

SUMMARY:The 4th Annual Lexington Lantern Festival
DESCRIPTION:As winter begins to soften and the promise of spring draws near\, the Lexington Lantern Festival invites the community to gather on March 1 for an evening shaped by light\, hope\, and shared experience. Hosted at Cary Hall\, the festival is a celebration of tradition\, creativity\, and togetherness. \nFrom 1:00 to 4:00 PM\, Cary Hall comes alive with interactive booths\, hands-on activities\, and moments for reflection as visitors write wishes and create lantern-inspired keepsakes. Beginning at 4:00 PM\, cultural performances and music fill the space\, sharing stories through movement\, sound\, and tradition until 6:00 PM. \nAs dusk settles\, the celebration flows beyond the hall. From 6:00 to 7:00 PM\, participants are invited to join a lantern parade from Cary Hall to the Visitors Center\, carrying light\, hopes\, and collective spirit into the evening. The journey concludes with a shared moment of illumination at Buckman Tavern and the Visitors Center\, where the glow of lanterns reflects the community’s wishes for the future. \nThe Lexington Lantern Festival is more than an event—it is a pause\, a gathering\, and a shared step forward\, lighting the way together. \nFREE RSVP: https://forms.gle/WhpiXVuL5D8xzuTZ6

SUMMARY:The Road Where It Happened: Reexamining Menotomy on April 19\, 1775 - An Informal Historical Talk at Old Schwamb Mill
DESCRIPTION:Not everything that unfolded in Menotomy on April 19\, 1775\, reflects the popular memory. Beyond Paul Revere’s ride and marching columns of redcoats\, the day was marked by ambushes\, seized wagons\, rebels hiding in cornfields\, and fierce fighting starting at  the “Foot of the Rocks.” \nOn Saturday\, March 7 at 2:00 PM\, the Old Schwamb Mill invites the public to The Road Where It Happened: Version 2.0\, an informal illustrated talk by local historian Doreen Stevens. The program explores the lesser-known stories\, myths\, and meanings surrounding some of the deadliest fighting of the first day of the American Revolution. \nStevens will focus on the experiences of local residents and militia members\, including Benjamin Locke of Foot of the Rocks\, who led the Menotomy Minutemen up and down “The Road Where It Happened.” By examining contemporary accounts and later interpretations\, the talk invites audiences to reconsider how history is remembered\, retold\, and rooted in place. \nNeighboring the Foot of the Rocks park\, the historic Old Schwamb Mill hosts this program which offers a unique opportunity to connect Arlington’s Revolutionary past with the landscape where it unfolded.
