SUMMARY:Managing Stormwater in Lexington
DESCRIPTION:The rain that falls on Lexington is both a vital resource and a potential threat. In the right amounts it gives life to our natural areas\, street trees\, and gardens\, and to our streams and ponds. Too much or too fast\, or when it picks up harmful pollutants from the surfaces it falls on\, and it can cause erosion\, flooding\, stream pollution\, property damage\, and even life-threatening conditions. Managing stormwater in Lexington to enhance the former and minimize the latter\, particularly in a time of climate change\, is a constant challenge faced by the town. \nJoin Town Engineer John Livsey and Senior Civil Engineer Marissa Martel for an overview of how the town manages stormwater to achieve these ends in the face of aging infrastructure\, multiple levels of regulation\, water quality management\, climate change\, and the demands of operations and maintenance with limited staffing. John and Marissa will touch on what homeowners can do to help. \nLexington has won three “Stormy” awards from the New England Stormwater Collaborative for efforts to effectively manage stormwater through green infrastructure\, collaborations and technology.

SUMMARY:Lexington High School Building Project - Environmental Justice Community Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Massachusetts Environmental Protection Act (MEPA) review process provides opportunities for public review of a project’s potential environmental impacts. The Town of Lexington School Building Committee’s Lexington High School (LHS) Project will host a virtual Environmental Justice (EJ) community meeting to specifically engage EJ communities and community-based organizations on the Project and MEPA process. \nPlease join us on virtually Thursday\, February 5\, 2026 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM for the EJ Community Meeting. \nThis meeting will provide an opportunity to raise questions regarding the project and the MEPA review process. \nJoin the LHS EJ Meeting on Zoom! – https://tinyurl.com/44mz4kar \nThe Lexington High School Project would involve demolition of the existing school building and its associated infrastructure to address aging facilities\, expand shared spaces\, enhance safety\, and improve resiliency. The Project is currently undergoing environmental review under MEPA procedures\, where an Expanded Environmental Notification Form (EENF) was filed on August 15\, 2025\, and an EENF Certificate was issued on October 17\, 2025. The Project team has commenced work on preparing a Single Environmental Impact Report (SEIR)\, as a requirement of the EENF Certificate. The EENF Certificate also encouraged the Town to continue public outreach\, including opportunities for the public to learn more about the project and continue to offer comments and ask questions as the project goes through the remaining environmental review process. The meeting on this date is one such opportunity. The Town of Lexington School Building Committee is committed to providing ample access and opportunity to stay up-to-date on this Project\, consistent with the EENF Certificate. Previous meeting information and further details on the project and MEPA involvement is available through MEPA or the Lexington High School Building Project website (https://www.lhsproject.lexingtonma.org/). \nNote: The Town will provide a Mandarin translator on the virtual meeting. To request translation of the Project materials or live interpretation during the meeting\, please email jgreco@doreandwhittier.com by Thursday\, January 29\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Bluegrass Love Songs: A Celebration of Love WITH THE SPLINTERS BLUEGRASS BAND
DESCRIPTION:Love is a complicated emotion\, and music has long been a place to explore those complexities— and bluegrass is no exception. Songs reflecting longing\, heartbreak\, new relationships\, and the occasional tale of deception or misfortune are common in this music. In this program\, The Splinters present a range of pieces that touch on these themes\, offering a well-rounded look at love in its many forms. The concert features a thoughtful collection of traditional and contemporary bluegrass love songs\, performed with the band’s characteristic groove\, three-part harmonies\, and driving banjo and fiddle. \nThe Splinters\, a bluegrass band from Massachusetts\, deliver a relentless groove to accompany their tight 3-part harmonies. Tom Pritchard (fiddle) brings the heat to his fiddle playing. J Johnson (mandolin) adds a jazzy flair to his breaks. Chris Reckling (guitar\, banjo) picks solid rhythm and punchy leads on top of Garrett Wallace’s grooving bass fiddle. Newest band member\, Max Petersen provides the rolling firepower on banjo. A Splinters set veers from straight ahead bluegrass to traditional fiddle tunes and back\, with the occasional detour into a modern song. They have been playing together since 2010 and have released 3 albums\, available on all the major streaming platforms.

SUMMARY:Vintage Romance: Valentine's Cake Decorating Class with Cake Niche (Night 1)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to decorate a cake in a vintage style in this workshop with Anna Abbanat from Cake Niche. \nCelebrate Valentine’s Day with buttercream\, romance\, and a whole lot of vintage flair! In this hands-on cake decorating class\, you’ll learn how to create a Lambeth-style (also known as “vintage”) heart cake—think elegant piping\, frills\, swags\, and classic over-the-top charm. \nEach participant will receive a prepared 5 inch two-layer heart-shaped cake\, ready to decorate from start to finish. When you sign up\, you’ll choose the flavor (chocolate or vanilla) and filling (chocolate mousse\, whipped cream\, or raspberry mousse). \nDuring class\, you’ll get to choose your frosting colors and decoration style\, making your cake totally unique—soft and romantic\, bold and dramatic\, or anything in between. We’ll cover piping techniques\, design ideas\, and tips for achieving that iconic vintage Lambeth look\, whether you’re a beginner or just looking to refine your skills. \nYou’ll leave with a beautifully decorated heart cake\, new decorating techniques\, and the perfect edible Valentine (for a loved one… or yourself). No prior decorating experience required—just come ready to have fun and get a little sweet! \nAbout Cake Niche: \nHi I’m Anna! I’ve worked as a cake artist across the U.S.\, from Boston to Wisconsin to Los Angeles\, and now I’m thrilled to own Cake Niche in Lexington Center. While in Los Angeles\, I had the incredible opportunity to create cakes for celebrities such as Pink\, Ken Jeong\, and Tyler Florence of The Great Food Truck Race. After years of traveling and honing my craft\, I decided to move back to the Boston area to be closer to my family and because I truly missed the charm and community of New England. Having grown up in Somerville and Winchester\, Massachusetts\, I’m especially excited to bring my passion for cake artistry back home and share it with the Lexington community. \n  \nPlease note: if for any reason a class needs to be cancelled\, we will postpone to another date. Refunds will be given to those unable to make the new date.
